After 76 days, the DHS shutdown is finally over. Holding the American people hostage over policy disputes is flat-out wrong. Even when I was in the minority under President Biden, I voted to keep the government open because I know who suffers most during a shutdown. Hint: it’s not the folks in Washington. We must do better.

I just voted to pass the long awaited Farm Bill. Iowa farmers made it clear, they need certainty, and this bill delivers. It strengthens the farm safety net, boosts exports, invests in research, and brings real reforms across agriculture and nutrition programs. Great meeting with the Sustainable Advanced Biofuel Refiners (SABR) to discuss advancing Iowa’s biodiesel industry and strengthening our agricultural economy. We also discussed my bill to reinstate the $1 per gallon Biodiesel Tax Credit (until 45Z issues are resolved), supporting the biofuels sector and helping lower diesel prices. This legislation provides certainty for farmers and producers, keeps costs down, and reduces reliance on foreign energy.

I met with the Iowa Emergency Nurse Association to discuss emergency department issues and my bill, the Save Healthcare Workers Act, which creates federal penalties for individuals who knowingly and intentionally assault or intimidate hospital employees. As violence in healthcare continues to rise, it is critical that we protect those who care for us. No one should fear for their safety while trying to save lives.

While electricity demand continues to grow, @RepMMM highlighted the need for common sense permitting reform. Letting utilities upgrade existing power lines is critical to ensuring grid capacity keeps pace with AI-driven demand.

Had a productive meeting with Iowa’s Electric Cooperatives to discuss the SPEED Act and the importance of permitting reform to cut red tape, unleash American energy, create jobs, and lower costs for working families. Iowans deserve reliable, affordable energy.

As a 24-year Army veteran, I’ve attended many Honor Flight celebrations, but today's was especially important to me. This time, I had the privilege of honoring my big brother. Rick is an Army veteran who served our nation in Vietnam. Standing beside him and recognizing his service—along with so many other brave men and women, was something I’ll never forget.
