As an adjunct to Retrosheet's summer 2024 release, we are making available a set of csv files that provide daily logs for players, teams, and ballparks, as well as fully parsed play-by-play data. See here for details: retrosheet.org/downloads/csvd…
Enjoy!

Another error in the batting.csv from @Retrosheet in the b_seq column: I've corrected in the screenshot, but the stattype value "lower" was appearing in the b_seq column instead of replacing "value" in the stattype column.
Error in two rows of gameID CVB194605281.

Ran across what looks like an error (group of errors in one gameID) in the @Retrosheet batting.csv file. In the b_seq column (which is supposed to be an integer), you can see that one of the values is "ph" instead (orange highlight).

Second, we offer daily logs for players, teams, by season, by ballpark, and more.

@Retrosheet has now posted scans of official “day-by-day” sheets housed @baseballhall. Here’s just one of the gems you can access: Ty Cobb’s 1910 stats that mistakenly repeated a 2-for-3 game, ultimately and accidentally giving him the 1910 batting crown. retrosheet.org/officialtotals…

Bruce Fleming has documented a few dozen cases of non-pitchers taking the mound in games played before 1911. The Retrosheet website has been updated (retrosheet.org/nonpitch.htm). Many thanks to Bruce for this careful research and for sharing it with the Retro-community.

@J2S2013 @blummer27 @RealToddKalas great find, this should be listed as a 1-3 pitch (Cc: @MLB, @baseball_ref, @fangraphs, @Retrosheet).

The Joint Rules Committee reduced the number of balls required for a walk from five to four on Nov. 20, 1888 — 136 years ago today — establishing the "four balls for a walk, three strikes you're out" rule that is still in effect today.
Despite this change, mistakes have occurred over the years. For instance, on June 26, 2021, Casey Mize walked Kyle Tucker on ball five after umpire Sam Holbrook seemingly lost track of the count. This remains the most recent instance of a pitch being thrown after ball four had already been called.

@mccantssa68 If you go here - retrosheet.org/downloads/csvd… - if you download the file there, you'll get a series of csv files. The 'fielding' files there have daily player fielding logs which include ballparks. The 'teamstats' files have the same by team. Good luck!

@Retrosheet I would like Retrosheet to add players fielding splits by ballpark just like hitting/pitching splits. You guys did honor my request for home and away fielding splits a few years back. Would make fielding research a lot less tedious.
Thank you!
