@7starsmessenger @edwardW2 Well yeah then generally this would make her seem a bit rought and edgy. I saw some people commenting tomboy and I don't agree. This is more I guess punkish? Semi delinquent? Potentially too-online-otaku-coded? Lots of options but in my experience distinct from tomboy stereotype.

@ScriptingJapan @edwardW2 Thanks. Her age is kinda ambiguous but since she does things like lives by herself and drinks booze I have always read her as a young adult.

I'm watching this video on vulgarity in Japanese language. The researcher presenting studied how Japanese translated vulgarity in Western series. Apparently there are strong norms against women using "rude" forms, so Marisa's "da ze" in Touhou is fairly rough language in context?

@7starsmessenger @edwardW2 Yeah so like, ignoring the mitigating factors of this being a fictional character and a child (?), some of these statements would be considered at least semi-vulgar. For instance: 誰もあんたのことって言ってないぜ is a sentence that could get you in trouble.

@7starsmessenger @edwardW2 Heya, so as I mention, context is everything. Tone of voice, topic, etc., ffect how the "da ze" is understood - I don't know this character, but real vs fictional also matters. However, if a woman said "da ze" in real life, it would come off as quite rough yes.

@PSI_yaa @A1nz00al60wn Yeah but he wouldn't have ruined an entire city and its population. He'd be more like the girl that summons swords. A powerful oddity without the tools to conduct mass evil.

Tourist nonsense. Frieren features multi-RACIAL, not just in the "skin color" sense, groups working together to save the world, and far more humans serve as villains than demons. The current arc's villains are humans attempting to assassinate an elf. Literally illiterate.

@PSI_yaa @A1nz00al60wn No, Macht is a unique character. The outcome is specific to them. They were very well written, and indicate things about the demons that go beyond what we've been told. TBH I have a pet theory about the demon king but we'll see.

@ScriptingJapan @A1nz00al60wn There are a few humans like that in frieren, but the vast majority shown so far are not that , and with what you say macht is still the focal point of everything . A similar outcome wouldve happened no matter what; hence frierens dialogue

@PSI_yaa @A1nz00al60wn The demon she's talking to in this panel would not have been able to accomplish it's atrocities if it was not welcomed into the city and given a position of power by a human with dubious morals at best. Corrupt, lying, petty, and evil humans run throughout the story.

@ScriptingJapan @A1nz00al60wn It seemed like you really tried to drive in the point that more humans are evil even though the latest arc is the only one where theyre actually the big bad, also that there are actually many more named villans that are demons Note: im not on the racist side in case i wasnt clear

@Pacifist_Elk The panel in context isn't even about demons as a whole. Demons in the manga don't desire coexistence as a norm. The one she's talking to here is a rare case, one of the few who *state* that they want to understand humans. When she says "the more YOU" she means literally him.

@ScriptingJapan People mis-interpret the demons as being meant to stand in for some minority group, when in reality they are a metaphor for aggressive mimicry in evolutionary biology, just applied to humans as the target species.

@PSI_yaa @ScriptingJapan yes, hes wrong. Some humans are bad in frieren, as they are in reality, but as we have seen so far, there isnt a single innocent/good demon.
