@mgibbs189 @wpmark By default there is one (Default) Engine that integrates with WordPress' native search, which by itself meets the needs of many users. Additional Engines are there whenever you want to do anything else anywhere else without affecting your Default, global search. Hope that helps!

@mgibbs189 @wpmark Yes, this exactly, thanks Matt! There are a number of separate Engines on SearchWP.com for example — the search form in the nav searches the whole site, but searchwp.com/documentation/ has a Documentation-only search limited to content in that section of the site only.
