Boomers get triggered when you tell them that hard work used to mean something, but now it doesn't because there's no reward attached to it. This is because they have cognitive dissonance about what the world is actually like today versus how they experienced it. They interpret what I just said as 'you didn't work hard!' when really what I just said is you may or may not have worked hard, but at least you could actually buy something with the reward you received for that work. Think of it this way. If your employment contract specified that for every hour worked you got x% of decent progress towards a house, but then they changed the contract and said you now get x% of some worthless paper notes that are printed out of thin air, how would that make you feel? Boomers got the former deal, and they hate admitting it, because to them it would devalue their effort. But that's the truth - they didn't have to work nearly as hard compared to people today to afford a house. No one likes being devalued, so instead of considering the merit of what I just said they tell everyone to eat less avo on toast and work harder.
