@JVandls Maybe? Optical might be a safer bet. You wouldn't get Atmos but through a soundbar Atmos isn't a huge deal.

I love the new AI @bing, but like most of these products it has a real tendency to hallucinate facts. Note how it’s answering accurately, but starts making up features that don’t exist. There is no ceramic ball in Alien.

@TechWriterGeoff Hey man, years ago you recommended a Plasma TV and it's the best purchase I've made when it comes to TVs. I need to buy a new one now for the living room. What is your current TV of choice?

@El_pana86 OLED (LG, some Sony) or if you can afford it, QD-OLED (Samsung, some Sony)

@Lars_G @jayforeman It changes a lot each year, and new TVs will be announced next week at CES. MiniLED is a good step between regular LED LCD and OLED, and the prices of those are dropping all the time.

@TechWriterGeoff @jayforeman Which of the panel makers is the best for local dimming on the budget side in your opinion? Or good local dimming is firmly set in the high range still?

Techsperts! Last time I knew what was important when it comes to buying a new TV, it was, like, 1995. Who makes the best tellies now? What features actually matter and what features do the websites tell you matter but they don’t? Basically, what telly should I buy? 📺

@TechWriterGeoff @jayforeman Is there any budget (and I mean budget, I'm looking dub $500 58"/55") that has decent HDR? I know I can't aspire to 700 nits, but I want good blacks and true (if limited) hdr

@kn0tsin @jayforeman Ah, hadn't tested those. Well that makes sense since it's Amazon. Selling your data is the main reason TVs are as cheap as they are now, so this is going to be an uphill battle.

@TechWriterGeoff @jayforeman The new Amazon TVs require internet connection at all time.

@kn0tsin @jayforeman You don't have to connect a TV to the internet, but it will limit or prevent you from getting firmware updates. There is no such thing as a "dumb" TV anymore.

@TechWriterGeoff @jayforeman What TVs can you by that don't require an internet connection to work? (Including install). Bonus points if it has no built in advertising
