@DTscos That's a lot more agency than what Denji actually has in Part 2. He just sorta gets dragged from one situation to the next where somebody he cares about dies.

Denji told me Devils keep eating his family so I asked how many families he has and he said he just goes to the shelter and gets a new family afterwards so I said it sounds like he's just feeding families to devils and then Pochita started crying.

@Ichigo_WD If you'll excuse me, I'll be running through the streets, yelling: "YOU FOOLS IT'S JUST THE ENDING OF TOKAPI'S ORIGINAL SIN BUT WORSE!" for a week or two.

Honestly, I feel like this is just a really cheap way to resolve everything. Memories are still important, and getting rid of that means these characters have lost something significant. It makes the ending feel hollow.

@Ichigo_WD Fujimoto must have read Tokapi's Original Sin, because that's the only reason I can think for him to crowbar this kind of ending in there.

This is not character development. A character develops when they DECIDE to make different choices. Pochita erasing himself and Denji stopping Asa from falling were things completely out of her control. Asa didn't develop. Her circumstances simply magically changed.

@youandbadmovies My problem is that it didn't even feel like some kind of deliberate subversion. It's the sort of ending a fairly generic manga would have if it wanted to be profound. That's it. The ending will sorta stick out as the least interesting part of the entire manga.

The concept that Asa lost character development because of the world reset is flawed. Her entire story revolves around carrying guilt that isn't hers and clinging to a reason to live because of it. Her savior complex was harming herself

@bbl_jizzy I would have liked it if Asa just had her own story tbh. Early Part 2 was really good. But once Denji came back into full focus, it kinda just rehashed and meandered its way to a conclusion.

Is it crazy to say csm would be better if it just actually ended here? 🤔

@AwestruckVox That's fine and all, but I like characters to have the agency to actually affect the plot with their fatal character flaws instead of just getting jerked around by the narrative. There's not really much they could have done differently, but I guess their intent wasn't pure so...

Part 2’s message is blatantly “Don’t mask your selfish desires under noble intent” if you ask me Denji’s motivation to continuing being a hero was fueled by lust and a need for adoration. It was a hollow endeavor. Asa’s motivation to save Denji was fueled by a desire to prove she’s a good person, that she’s worthy of living. Yoru ultimately vindicates her, but dedicating your life to save/fix someone you barely know is a hollow endeavor. They both were so focused on chasing these selfish, empty goals that they neglected the world ending around them and got nothing out of it. Public Safety also does this in the story. Barem and the weapons less so, but still do. Shit even Tanaka in the first chapter sums this up - acts as if he has Asa’s best interest at heart, really just wants to sleep her.

And eventually he was rescued by oh... lets say... Power

@Josu_ke Not really, there was nothing rushed about the ending of The Big Lebowski. It felt meditative and like the absurdity of life just sorta hits you and you gotta keep on trucking. It certainly didn't end with some cloying fanservice.

Fujimoto has done what he said we wanted to do honestly.

"if CSM fans read Centuria they will defend Helem!" REAL Helemaniacs accept that she is a terrible person, they don't defend what she does, and in fact, they encourage because that's what makes her character interesting and good.
