After two prior tries to get the legal language right, a push for a ballot initiative that would freeze rents in D.C. for two years (and do a few other things) has gotten preliminary approval from @DCAttorneyGen. Still some hurdles to clear before it gets on the ballot, though.

NEW: Republicans are facing a major internal fight over the SAVE Act, an election bill requiring proof of citizenship to vote. A high Trump priority. It has passed the House. But there's no path to 60 votes in the Senate, with Democrats certain to filibuster it. Trump wants Senate Rs to nuke the 60-vote rule, but they don't have the votes for that. Some say use a "talking filibuster" to tire out Dems and pass it. Past Senate majorities have considered this idea and junked it, concluding it'll burn floor time and inevitably fail.
