Great to join with legislators and advocates this morning to call on @CalRecycle to adopt strong regulations to implement #SB54, groundbreaking legislation that forces producers to take responsibility for their packaging and reducing plastic waste. We need to get this right to maximize the benefits to consumers, ratepayers and the state as a whole. @BenAllenCA @AsmGreggHart @isaacgbryan @asmtasha @CALPIRG @oceana @OurOcean @MontereyAq @NSACTION_US @Surfrider @cawrecycles @EnvCalifornia @cleanh2oaction

“I don’t think that municipal waste landfills were ever designed to accept this kind of waste, and to deregulate it ... puts those landfill communities” at risk, said Jane Williams, executive director of California Communities Against Toxics. apnews.com/article/hazard…

Stanislaus County will finally have no more toxic ash put into our landfill from the trash incinerator and now the state wants to us take toxic soil from all over the state! 🤬
California Environmental Justice Coalition (CEJC)@CEJCoalition

Join CEJC and and other Environmental Justice organizations and community members in telling the @CaliforniaDTSC Board of Environmental Safety (BES) that we don't want hazardous waste in landfills next to disadvantaged communities that are already overburdened with pollution!

Did you know? Not all green produce bags are compostable! Only bags with the BPI (Biodegradable Product Institute) logo are certified compostable. Keep plastic bags out of your green bin and help us keep the compost healthy!

Back in 1988, Chem Waste and Kings County tried to jam a toxic waste incinerator down the throats of Kettleman City residents. The town of 1100 residents were already carrying the burden of the largest toxic waste dump west of Alabama. The community fought back, organized and filed a CEQA lawsuit. Sacramento Superior Court Jeffrey Gunther ruled that the EIR failed to analyze the toxic waste incinerator’s impacts on air quality and on agriculture and, most importantly, that the residents of Kettleman City had not been meaningfully included in the CEQA process. Judge Gunther: “The residents of Kettleman City, almost 40 percent of whom were monolingual in Spanish, expressed continuous and strong interest in participating in the CEQA review process for the incinerator project at [Chem Waste’s] Kettleman Hills Facility, just four miles from their homes. Their meaningful involvement in the CEQA review process was effectively precluded by the absence of Spanish translation.” The toxic waste incinerator was never built. #CEQA @CRPE_EJ @CRLAinc @Greenaction_EJ

@CalEPASecretary Yes, we are excited about the potential it has. At the moment it is very lacking in providing key information bout the applications that would allow us to actually protect ourselves from pesticide exposure. There is no exact location. And no follow up on the proposed application

Excited about the launch of this new tool! Californians now have real-time, accessible information about certain pesticides being sprayed in their communities. This is a big step forward to deliver key information. Looking forward to tracking how it’s working - check it out!
