The Telegraph just published a deep dive on how UK bookmakers hunt down profitable bettors. The numbers are stark. Caan Berry used to make £7,000 with a Bet365 account before being closed. Today a new account gets shut down at £200. Dave McNeill has been through 50+ accounts with Bet365 since 2012. But here's the thing, this is not new and sharps have always adapted and navigated it. Getting limited on soft books is a badge of honor, not a dead end. It means you're doing it right. The real edge isn't about lasting forever on one account. It's about extracting maximum value before the books catch up, then moving on. That's the staircase: soft books, reserve accounts, exchanges, prediction markets.

Kouamé vs Humbert right now at Monte-Carlo. 🎾🇲🇨 The French wildcard sensation won a match at Miami. Can he do it again against a fellow Frenchman? Pinnacle opened Kouamé @ 6.37 (+537). Closed @ 4.27 (+327). That's a 33% shift. The market moved hard.

A Frenchman hasn't won Roland Garros since Noah in 1983. A Frenchman hasn't won the Tour de France since Hinault in 1985. 40+ years of hurt on both fronts. Moise Kouamé and Paul Seixas are carrying all the hope. Who do you think will break the curse first?

@Hodgeythehack Totally agree. The product can be elite but it only works if the crowd buys in. Americans love European atmospheres (Belgrade, Athens...) but that passion is built on club identity. Decades of it.

The closed franchise model is the fault line that keeps coming up – and rightly so. European fans don't do "relegated to nothing." But the NBA knows this. The real question is whether they've actually designed around it or whether they're just hoping the product is good enough that nobody cares. History suggests that's a gamble – but the NBA don't go after something unless they mean business.

NBA Europe just crossed its first major milestone. Bid deadline passed Tuesday. 120+ investor groups responded. Multiple bids at $1 billion per franchise. Most falling between $500M and $1B. PSG, Real Madrid, AC Milan, sovereign wealth funds. All in. Target: 14-16 teams across 12 European cities. London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Athens on the list. Launch: fall 2027. Silver’s message to investors: “People looking for a short return should look elsewhere.” But we’re skeptical. A closed franchise model with $1B entry fees is the opposite of European sports culture. Promotion and relegation is in European DNA. And the cities? London and Rome don’t breathe basketball. You’re not building a culture from scratch with a TV product. You need fans in arenas, local identity, organic rivalries. That said, if it launches, the betting market implications are massive. A fully regulated NBA-backed league across every major European market means a whole new ecosystem of value opportunities. Euroleague is watching. Closely.

Wemby inadvertently catches Jokic in the face. No foul called (it would have been his third). Multiple technical fouls called on the Nuggets in the aftermath.

@nbaeuropepod 100% agree. The closed model is the non-negotiable for most European fans. You can fix pricing and scheduling. You can’t fix buying your place in a league that has no stakes below the champion.
