The Immanuel Quickley conundrum is something the Toronto Raptors really have to address. I was a huge fan of the trade to acquire Immanuel Quickley originally when it happened. The contract was an overpay at the time and now it looks even worse. The team quite frankly needs an upgrade at that point guard spot and they should be doing everything they can to clear the books off that contract. Let me get into my GM bag here I’ve surveyed the landscape league wide and there are definitely teams out there that have “Star” PGs that could be in trade talks here around the trade deadline and into the summer. I just don’t know how realistic that would be for the Toronto Raptors to pull off here and maybe they’d look at just primarily cutting costs in a move to give themselves a little more flexibility long term. I have landed on the Chicago Bulls as being a viable trade partner with the Toronto Raptors here. Not as directionless as previous years the Chicago Bulls seem to have more of an appetite to blow it up completely, but with the east being as putrid as it is at the back end they’re still in the play in picture 😭 Matas, Josh Giddey, Noa (lotto pick from this draft) they have some young intriguing pieces, but they definitely need to bottom out or try a little harder to give themselves a better chance at a higher selection to pair with those guys Rough Trade Framework Raptors - Ayo Dosunmo, Zach Collins Bulls - Immanuel Quickley, 2027 first round pick My reasoning on why this could work for both parties For the Chicago Bulls: Getting off 2 expiring contracts and 2 players that are currently contributing to wins when it may not be the most ideal outcome for the organization. Acquiring a first round pick for those 2 in my opinion would be good business for the Chicago Bulls, but what this really allows is them to then get off Coby White and get even more picks in a separate deal. Immanuel Quickley is a poor mans Coby White in terms of play style and while it’s not ideal to have his contract maybe the first and being a worse team for the next little while can interest the Bulls into doing a move. For the Raptors: Main priority should be getting off of Quickley’s contract asap. They could see how Ayo does for them and maybe just maybe they’d then feel confident enough with him at the PG spot, extend him. This also addresses a backup Center need for the Toronto Raptors. I know Mo Bamba was just signed, but they still should look for an upgrade at that spot. At the very least it would help them for this season. Creates financial flexibility which everyone league wide knows the Toronto Raptors are trying to shed salary. Final thoughts I say rough trade framework because I’m aware that length and term of Immanuel’s contract makes this a tougher sell and sometimes expirings are more coveted league wide. They can hold more value league wide. I just wonder if a team is willing to offer up more FRP capital or if at all for Ayo, Zach. Could it also take a pick swap? Because of length of contract I could see that being the case. I just wanted to put this out there as a rough framework that could help steer both organizations into better situations moving forward.
