The oldest maximum temperature date record on record (based on @TorroUK records) has been exceeded this afternoon provisionally, with 24.2°C at Mona on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. The previous record was 23.6°C set at Oxford in 1859 - 167 YEARS AGO!

The highest temperatures in the UK have been in northwest Wales today 🌡️ Here we've had the warmest 7th April on record and the highest temperature of 2026 so far. We're very likely to see higher temperatures as we move through the rest of spring and towards summer 📈

Wednesday will be very warm for early April, with potentially record breaking temperatures for this time of year 🌡️ For some, it may be the warmest spell this early in April since 2020. But it will be brief. Temperatures will drop by up to 10 degrees Celsius by Thursday 📉

A dry evening for many with most showers easing, and becoming confined to northern coasts of Scotland 🌜 Clear skies and lighter winds means it will feel cold overnight 🥶

Numerous sites across northern England, portions of Wales, southern Scotland and SE Northern Ireland recorded their strongest April gust on record during #StormDave – in the case of Blackpool, since the station opened in 1957! x.com/metoffice/stat…

Had a brief skim over some weather stuff I think a good amount of dry weather on the way in the coming 2 weeks, most especially further E/SE For last 10 days of April into May, we may well see a lot of high pressure dominated conditions, with settled weather, as some MJO activity is coming. Expect to see some blocked charts #UKweather

Looks like the earlier model indications wont materialise and we'll avoid the brunt of #StormDave, as it is more likely to deepen further as it moves into the North Sea. It's not to say that it wont pack a punch through the Easter weekend. Still looking likely to have a large swathe of 55-65mph gusts, locally 70-80mph may be possible. Some significant snow to NW parts of Scottish Highlands too due to the temperature gradient present during the deepening phase.

Rotherham, England replaced 8 miles of mowed grass with wildflowers. They saved £25,000 in mowing costs a year and bees, butterflies, and birds showed up almost immediately. You don’t need to wait for your city to act. Start small in your own patch: 🏡 Let your front verge or sidewalk strip go wild this spring 🌻 Toss a few native wildflower seed balls into neglected spots 🌱 Stop mowing one strip and see what shows up 📧 Contact your city government. One email from one person has started initiatives like this before One person. One small patch. Real habitat. Your street could be next.

#StormDave will undergo rapid cyclogenesis (RACY) on Saturday, passing NW Ireland then across Scotland later Saturday. A wave low along trailing cold front SW of Ireland around 1003mb at 3am Saturday to 972mb at 3am Sunday NW of Scotland, a drop of 31mb. RACY or explosive / bomb cyclogenesis is defined by a central pressure drop of at least 24 hPa in 24 hours. UKV showing isolated gusts of 70-80mph across western & southern Scotland along with coastal Cumbria. Snow & blizzard conditions could also cause issues in NW Scotland, as cold air cuts in as the low clears. Down south, just a windy Sat evening/night, not really any impacts from the storm.
