At this week’s Bonn meeting, the CMS Mediterranean Illegal Killing Task Force united 30-plus countries and observers around a common framework to combat illegal bird killing. 🐦 Delegates endorsed a new survey on poaching motivations, spotlighted Spain’s and UK’s successful specialist enforcement units, applauded Montenegro’s newly adopted National Action Plan and parallel advances in Croatia and Albania, and learnt @BirdLife_News' latest successes and challenges assessment. Innovative solutions! In an awe-inspiring feat, Chiuluan2,one of the two satellite-tagged Amur Falcons named after a village in Manipur's Tamenglong district has reached its first stopover site in Somalia in five days and 17 hours after flying non-stop and crossing the Arabian Sea. This incredible migration, part of a study by the Manipur Forest Department, Wildlife Institute of India (WII), and local communities, sheds light on the challenges and routes of these long-distance travelers. Amur Falcons, known for their epic journeys from Southeast Russia and China to Africa, demonstrate unmatched stamina and navigation, including non-stop flights over the Arabian Sea. Agriculture intensification, wildfires and exotic species are amongst the top threats affecting CMS Appendix I and II species, including southern South American migratory grassland birds. 🐦 International cooperation is needed!
