but byler still has a lot of fans who watch him so i kinda wish that if this was his s5 conclusion, he'd have went with that from the get go and we'd all be used to it by now because there's whiplash to be had from "yeah in my opinion mike should end up with will after el!!" and being the only person in proximity to the show who saw the hurt the byler fandom went through and validated it to "yes will should have had a relationship but not byler, no byler". as for mike, imo he was never in love with el to begin with. and he moves on in the end, goes to college, pursues his dreams. he was feeling guilty and grieving, then he was told to get over it and he did. he'll be fine. i don't think you get the point i'm making in this thread but that's okay.

@_hellshee_ and having trouble letting her go, like its not only a problem of how good or bad Mike was to Will

well, will also didn't have a proper on screen relationship so the question and his answer was already working on the power of imagination so he could have said that he would have wanted mike to be better and for byler to be explored. you can't fault people for being confused after he answered non byler questions with positive byler answers and then he was like wait yeah i wanted will to have a relationship in canon but not with mike. also he said it super definitively. idk i think having questions on what led to this change of heart in his expressed opinion is expected.
English

@_hellshee_ i think he's advocating for his own character over everything else, after all the hurt and disappointment will went through with mike in canon it would take a lot to make byler work that would do will justice

@JLMovieGirl92 because the writers turned out to be ignorant nasties and we ignored some of the red flags post s2
English

@_hellshee_ I thought everything would work out. Why didn’t it? Why doesn’t stranger things match my thinking? I thought it was gonna be a coming of age story created equally. Why wasn’t it?
English

@barbiebyers_ like why are we acting like this is a irl relationship or a miscommunication trope fic with an endgame sequel? mike and will are not real, they don't make their own decisions, byler did not get together because the authors of the story did not want them to.

i just wish that if it stayed platonic, byler would have had fewer deep conflicts like s3 + s4. even if mike couldn't reciprocate, write him as that steady safety net for will that platonically loves him so much and although he can't reciprocate, he's so supportive and will finds safety in him rather than having shame about his feelings. and that helps him face the bigger world. like mike being that kind of friend in the 80s is subverting expectations because we already see it in s1 how he defends will. so if there was no way to make it romantic, mike should have been will's safety net through deeds and not just words (you don't make me feel like a mistake) and do away with the s3 conflict. but whatever 🚬
English

@_hellshee_ If what they really wanted was to have a “it’s okay if someone doesn’t love you back” storyline, then they should have stuck to their initial plan for stancy instead of baiting them bc of fan chatter
English

@harumichiis this conversation is pointless to begin with because these aren't real people. everything they do is dictated by the puppet masters. confession or not, if the puppet masters don't want the relationship to happen, it won't.

hey!!! thank you so much, i'm glad you enjoy my silly account!! 💛🌻 i'm gonna keep it very brief and vague for anonimity: 1) there is one thing you mentioned that isn't confirmed so idrk if *that specific thing* actually happened (i'll asume you know which thing i'm talking about) 2) about your theory: i can kinda see it but more from a platonic pov which holds a similar emotional weight anyway so it'd still have a similar impact, but i personally think that this would just be one part of it because the hurt goes beyond that and there's a bigger picture there

English

1. it could be a number of reasons tbh (and it probably IS a number of reasons), but it is at least a bit confusing, especially with how definitive he sounded and how he knew he was criticizing beyond the writing by saying "i know you'll hate me for this" at the end after saying that yes he wished will had a relationship in canon but not with mike. (cause no one would fault him for just criticizing the writing and we don't count m11s/part of GA because most of them are not will/byler fans anyway + they would actually be pleased he said no byler because they'd say finn/mike is finally free so the "i know you'll hate me for this" i feel like was directed at bylers because of the sentiment he expressed). maybe he's reflected more and became more jaded with how they handled will's story with mike and doesn't want to stoke this fire anymore because it makes him feel a certain way or he's grown jaded with how little support he had through all this from writers/costars, maybe the more time passes from st the easier it is for him to detach emotionally from byler, maybe he was told something bts by the duffers during that panel he had, maybe he was annoyed at the duffers saying byler was never in the cards and doesn't want to seem hang up on it anymore. i mean it's all speculation. and i feel like because it clashes with past views, his actual feelings are more layered than "he likes it" or "he doesn't like it". i think it's a pretty complex subject for noah and you need to look at the full picture + realize he's not fully saying everything he feels as if he's at a therapist lol.
2. so why make positive comments post s5? i mean i'd understand if he started post s5 tour with like hammer to byler's head because in fact that's what i expected to happen. i was pleasantly surprised with the crumbs tho so that's why i was like "wait what?" on this sudden change that goes being writing criticism and extends to rejecting byler even in a universe where will does get to have a relationship in canon. like he could have said you know they wrote mike to be pretty shitty sometimes, but yes i would have liked to see him in a relationship with the mike we know from season 2. obviously more diplomatic than me, but you get the gist.
3. i totally understand why he'd feel jaded being the only one to talk about this with no support from other cast members or the writers, and not wanting to seem hang up on this, but the way he phrased it did hurt a little, but hey, it's okay anon, we can still ship fanon byler. these are his feelings and he's entitled to them but fanon will always remain playground to play together.
4. we could have had a more impactful story :(
