why does this look like a mess? why is billy and karen on it? why did they combine multiple seasons for the party in the middle? why isn't will bigger? why is grigori on it but not, idk, terry? or switch him with flashback baby will?

i wanted to say this earlier in my reply but i didn't want to focus too much on the byler endgame aspect vs the painting lie, but i agree. i refused to believe that an unbiased writer with any sort of self respect would look at the story the duffers crafted coming away with the idea that m11 is a relationship that should have lasted as long as it did in the narrative (their conflicts many, brushed aside or unaddressed) and that the story wasn't building up to a break up and, with the painting lie reveal, either byler endgame or as you said all single, but with at the very least giving mike a proper apology to will for his past behaviour, a thing the duffers never intended to do even after the recontextualization of past conflicts through will's coming out. it's so frustrating. it feels like narratively the set up is either leading to byler endgame or a true renewel of byler friendship with honesty and mike going back to being a safe space for his queer friend that's endured so much from others and mike himself and yet none of that happens outside of the half ass apology in the tower scene that wasn't even in the scripts and has terrible writing through which the writers speak some bullshit to the audience about how things had to happen this way. but yes, i do believe that an unbiased, not homophobic writer would look at this story and either think everyone's single by the end of it or byler endgame.

@_hellshee_ It’s fucked to do to a queer character, and it directly contradicts the main themes of the damn show. The audacity to still use “friends don’t lie” after trying to breeze past Will’s extremely blatant lie on a very consequential matter.

it's so sad that no one in the journalism or film / tv industry will ever write about this aspect (will's treatment in general) and pass on that criticism in a way the duffers can't escape. i liked many of your threads and the fandom always appreciates analysis and needed criticism, and they are important, but i wish there was a way to pass on that message to the duffers in a way they can't avoid it. i'm sure there's quite a few critical articles on the writers' decision to kill el off or the bad storytelling quality of vol. 2 and especially the finale, but only one article about how the writers handled will's feelings by a relatively small publication. instead i remember forbes writing this bullshit that puts even queer shipping in a problematic/weird light (see attached). sigh.. it's very frustrating to not get answers for anything.

the way i read so many fics without reading the full tags because i forget or don't pay close attention. it's my fault if i get jumpscared by smth. it happened w another ship of mine where i truly just started reading the fic ONLY based on summary and it had major character death i wanted to kms 😭 still amazing fic but the angst hit me like a runaway train

Mike Wheeler? the Mike Wheeler who pushed a bully when he was a kid? the Mike Wheeler who rallied his friends to search for Will when he went missing? the guy the show itself markets as the leader of the Party? is that Mike Wheeler canonically the most submissive person to ever exist?
