i knew one of them. she was my schoolmate. Her name is Alyssa Alano. We attended the same school for 12 years. I watched that woman grow from afar. I watched that woman take leadership in our Filipino Drama club and made sure it was political. I watched that woman march on the Leni-Kiko parade. I watched her become USC’s councilor with pride and stride. I watched her lead UP’s protests against corruption. I watched that woman fight for the rights of our marginalized. I watched that woman risk her life repeatedly. Now, I can’t. SHE IS NOT A REBEL. She is a woman who knew what it was like to be marginalized and STOOD UP. She will never know that people fight for her voice, for her beliefs, for the justice she strived for. She will never know she’s why I’m a student leader. She will never know how loud the world has become for her. Her name is Alyssa Alano. Never stop. Never quiet down. Live for her, and the people she fought for.
