@bronchomon @AbhiRaama22 @_presentplus @demishassabis A considerable section of upper middle class in India can afford to send their kids to North Atlantic countries. Has it ever been demonstrated statistically using empirical data in peer reviewed journals that IITs offer better outcome than other engineering institutes in India

There are videos of IITians who went to USA and they are shocked to see that people who were normies, did sports, enjoyed school and college and studied 4-5 hrs are smarter than them. Education is about know how not spitting formulas

10+ hours studying for Boards Exam and IIT-JEE exam prep at Kota followed by 4-year BTech at some IIT in Aerospace Engineering followed by Grad school at MIT .. no wonder this guy is spitting out formulas and theories like it’s nothing.. ‘Heritage Americans’ Groypers have no idea about the IQ and Work Ethic of this guy

India Auto PLI has disbursed ₹2,321cr out of ₹25,938cr with under two years left. That is less than 10% utilization. The entry bar sits at ₹10,000cr global revenue, which means companies that sell millions of petrol bikes qualify but Ather with 20% e-scooter share in multiple regions cannot. The scheme was built to reward scale in a market that did not exist yet. Now the companies that built that market carry a 13-16% cost penalty for doing it without permission. When policy rewards yesterday revenue, it taxes tomorrow innovation. Ather has 4,000 direct employees, ₹2,000cr going into a new Maharashtra plant, and 5,000 fast chargers built across India. None of that counts because their parent group did not sell enough petrol vehicles by March 2021. The PLI window opened once and closed forever. A company born electric had no seat at the table. If you want EV champions, stop measuring them by petrol metrics. the auto PLI scheme has spent ₹2,321cr of ₹25,938cr in 4 years. only 12 out of 82 approved companies even hit the 50% local content bar. meanwhile ather built 5,000 chargers and is dropping ₹2,000cr on a new factory and still can't get in because the entry form asked for ₹10,000cr group revenue back in 2021. wild policy design this is why i love India :)
Tarun Mehta@tarunsmehta

I have had the opportunity to engage with several policy makers on the topic of Auto PLI excluding startups and I just can’t believe that they would think so! It cannot be emphasised enough - current framing of Auto PLI needs to stay closely aligned with the moment India is in. Over the last decade, the electric two wheeler ecosystem in India has evolved through contributions from both incumbents and electric first companies. Many of these startups invested early in product, software, power electronics, and localisation, often without the cushion of legacy scale. In doing so, they have pushed the boundaries and pulled in the competition to together build a competitive but a very vibrant and dynamic EV market. Today in many many markets it is the ‘new age EV companies’ that are industry leaders in not just innovation and tech, but in absolute volumes and market shares. Aligned with the PLI’s vision, it is these ‘startups and new age EV companies’ that are investing hundred, even thousands of crores in most new manufacturing capacities for EVs. For example at Ather we have already employed more than 4000 people directly and tens of thousands indirectly in our channels and supply chains. We have invested thousands of crores in RnD and direct capex and on top of this we are now investing 2000 crores in our new green field facility in Maharasthra. This is literally what PLI was hoping as an outcome and is being realized by a non-PLI holder, against all odds. And most crucially, they are doing all this while also investing heavily in R&D and domestic value addition (DVA). DVA benchmarks are similar across PLI and non PLI players so it would be wrong to assume that startups don’t lead DVA requirements. These companies have consistently pushed deeper on indigenous development, building capabilities that are at par with, and in some cases ahead of, the broader industry. An EV policy architecture that defines champions primarily through legacy scale, not even scale within the EV industry, can create an unintended imbalance. It places emerging EV manufacturers at a 13 to 16 percent cost disadvantage at a stage where they are continuing to invest heavily in capability building. Over time, this will influence how the market evolves, even as the goal is to build both scale and future ready capability. In this train of EV industry if legacy businesses are the bogeys, startups and new age companies are the engine. You cannot take the engine out of the equation and hope for the bogeys to move forward themselves. If India’s ambition is to lead in electric mobility, policy needs to recognise where innovation and capability are being built. Much of the work around indigenous platforms, battery systems, software, and domestic value addition is happening within electric first companies, and they will continue to set global benchmarks in design and technology. What is needed is calibration of PLI, not overhaul. More flexible eligibility, aligned with localisation and R&D intensity, can help ensure we are building long term capability, not just near term scale.

A cautionary tale about @urbancompany_uc and how a publicly listed company handles damage claims. Booked their technician (Sanju Kumar) to install a Luminous inverter at my home in Bangalore. Routine job. Should've been 2 hours. Invoice no: UCIC260004101947 Complaint no: 69f362690db9530026fe28d7 Instead of a standard install, he opened the main switchboard and worked with MAINS LIVE violating the most basic electrical safety rule. Phase-neutral cross-connection caused a ~280V surge through my home wiring. Within minutes: • Geyser circuit dead - Approximation given is around 12,000 to fix • 55" Smart TV motherboard fried, panel and screen damaged - looking at full loss ( Rs 48,000) • Apple TV completely destroyed (₹14,900 replacement) • Home electrical wiring compromised (Assessing currently) The moment Sanju Kumar realized he'd damaged the geyser, he packed up and LEFT mid-job. Inverter still uninstalled. No fix. No apology. No accountability. Had to hire a different electrician the next day to fix the wiring he broke out of my own pocket. Filed formal complaint with UC. Specifically requested a SENIOR technician for independent damage assessment. UC's response? They sent SANJU KUMAR BACK. The same person who caused the damage. To "take photos" of his own work and walk away. He showed up, photographed the damage he caused, left without resolution. No claims process opened. No callback. When we asked UC for a complaint ID, it took multiple follow-ups and a manual download of a tax invoice to extract any documentation. They were not proactive in issuing one almost as if to avoid creating a paper trail. 3 sleepless nights. ₹40,000+ in documented damages. Complete radio silence from UC corporate after that. @urbancompany_uc @abhirajbhal @raghavchandra @varunkhaitan — your company is publicly listed now. Retail and institutional shareholders are watching how customer grievances are handled. Is THIS the customer experience model investors signed up for? 1. Technician violates basic electrical safety 2. Damages multiple appliances and home wiring 3. Walks off mid-job when he realizes his mistake 4. Same technician sent back to "investigate" his own damage 5. Customer chases for documentation that should've been auto-generated 6. Then gets ghosted Listed companies are held to a higher standard of corporate governance, customer protection, and grievance redressal. SEBI compliance and investor disclosures aren't just about quarterly numbers they extend to how the brand treats its customers. This isn't how a publicly listed company should operate. Asking for: 1. Independent senior technician (not Sanju Kumar) to assess damage 2. Compensation for documented damages: ₹90,000+ 3. Formal acknowledgment of complaint 69f362690db9530026fe28d7 4. Process review — no customer should have to extract their own complaint ID 5. Public clarification on UC's damage claims SOP Have all invoices, technician's diagnosis report confirming overvoltage cause, photos, timestamps, and WhatsApp records. please be careful. If a clearly documented case is handled this way, imagine the cases without paper trails. Consumer forum filing prepared if there's no response in 48 hours.
