@MrTCHarris When I ran a silent film club in Glasgow in the 90's, the audience loved it. We ended up showing quite a few of Griffith's short films.

Well, now. I just finished watching D. W. Griffith's "Birth of a Nation" (1915), the film that inspired the return of the KKK in the US. Remarkable film, if you can get past the wall-to-wall racism and the liberties taken with historical fact. Some of the battle shots are genuinely incredible. I don't understand how anyone can call Napoleon's life a failure? Yes, he ended up a prisoner on a rocky island where he died in 1821. But if you review his life - it is more about success. ⚔️ He is generally considered the greatest military mind since Julius Caesar. His tactics are still studied by military schools. 👩‍⚖️ His legal reforms, especially the Napoleonic Code, influenced legal systems around the world and outlasted his empire. 💰 He provided generational wealth for his family, siblings, step-children, Marshals, and others. 🏰 He reorganized French administration, education, taxation, and government institutions, many of which survived long after his defeat. Your thoughts?

I assigned a 1518 Erasmus text for a summer course w/36 students. Chaos ensued: Publisher & Amazon & 3rd party sites all claimed to have it but akshly don't. So from here it looks like the Renaissance was a good idea and books were cool but now it's officially over.
