I worked at a theme park about an hour outside of Philadelphia when I was in high school and every summer there’d be at least one British family who would tell me they were planning to drive to the Grand Canyon or some shit the next day.

Imagine a doctor refusing to diagnose you with a condition for which you have the symptoms, because the doctor believes the condition is rare, and therefore there's an imaginary quota on how many people are allowed be diagnosed with that, and you're not one of those people.

But my mum is in her 60s & already experiencing said complications, which are now the main focus of her medical treatments, rather than being able to do any prevention work via physio etc ☹️ I didn't get diagnosed until my 30s I just hope my kid has a easier time

@singingsox They don't learn about it, unless they decide to specialise in it. They get a single 2 hr lecture on post-viral chronic illness during their med school program, & all their in-hospital training is split up by body systems (obgyn, cardio, neuro, etc) so they don't do systemic sxns

I don’t understand why the concept of shitty connective tissue (found throughout our entire bodies, responsible for the structural integrity of our organs & joints), being able to cause full body systemic sxns, is so baffling to Drs. It’s there in the name. Connective. Tissue.

@sheilas34872235 @SarahLizzyLou Because the medical care exists & diabetes is a condition with a well-established treatment & management regime. He can still work, exercise, & have a social life. I have Long Covid, where covid eats your blood vessels, & can do none of that, with zero proper treatments available

@amayoco @SarahLizzyLou That would have been a horrific outcome for him to lose his pancreas - I´m not medically trained so have just googled it. No wonder he received a lot of medical care. How can anyone be jealous of that?

One of the frustrating things about being a healthcare student with LC/ME is that I’m always learning about care and treatment pathways for all these other illnesses. Ones far less debilitating and more rare. And it’s totally right that the care and education for them exist. 1/2
