I dag vill jag och hela den svenska regeringen gratulera Kung Carl XVI Gustaf på 80-årsdagen. Sverige och omvärlden har gått igenom en hel del under de första 80 åren av Kungens liv. Genom allt har Kungen blivit en självklar samlingspunkt för hela vårt land. En konstant – i ständig utveckling. It is unthinkable that Russia’s leadership would not be held accountable for the horrific crimes committed in and against Ukraine. Today, the Swedish Government decided on two bills regarding Sweden’s accession to both the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression and the International Claims Commission for Ukraine. Russia has to be held accountable for its actions and violations of international law. We must not let the people of Ukraine down and not let Russia reap any fruits of its aggression. #StandwithUkraine

Nu tas nästa steg för att inrätta aggressionsbrottstribunalen för Ukraina. Detta är historiskt - inte sedan Nürnberg har ansvar utkrävts för aggressionsbrottet. Genom tribunalen kommer ryska politiska och militära ledare som låg bakom det olagliga anfallskriget att kunna ställas till svars. Idag har regeringen antagit propositioner för att Sverige ska ansluta sig dels till aggressionsbrottstribunalen och dels till den internationella skadeståndskommissionen för Ukraina. Ryssland och dess ledning måste hållas ansvariga för de fruktansvärda brott som begås i och mot Ukraina. Allt annat är ett svek mot det ukrainska folket och en signal till omvärlden att anfallskrig lönar sig. #StandwithUkraine

Sweden condemns last night's horrific air strikes against Ukraine. My thoughts are with the many victims and their families. We must ramp up pressure on Russia and bolster support for Ukraine. Sweden wants a 20th sanctions package against Russia and the EU’s 90-billion euro loan to Ukraine to be adopted as soon as possible.

Sweden welcomes the agreement of a two-week mutual ceasefire between the United States and Iran, following important mediation efforts by Pakistan, among others, which may also create conditions for the restoration of free passage through the Strait of Hormuz. It is vital that all parties now exercise maximum restraint – to safeguard security in the region, to secure vital global supply chains and to protect innocent civilians. It is also important to now build further on this towards a solution that is sustainable in the long term and prevents Iran from developing nuclear weapons, threatening security in the region and carrying out destabilising activities in the region and in the West. It is in the interests of many countries, including Sweden, to ensure freedom of navigation, which is essential for functioning global trade. We are therefore participating in the format involving approximately 30 countries that was initiated by the United Kingdom to discuss the necessary conditions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Sweden is ready to support these efforts as appropriate, including political solutions.

Sweden has confirmed its intention to join the Agreement for the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. This is one step closer to establishing the Tribunal, of which Sweden will be a founding member. We must ensure accountability for Russian crimes against Ukraine. @CoE @alain_berset @andrii_sybiha
