We are proud to celebrate the outstanding 5th grade students of Emma Hutchinson Elementary School—Jacobi Boyce, Chase Harris, and Romeo Dior Rodriguez-Long—for their incredible achievement! Under the guidance of their science teacher, Mr. Darryl Davis, these scholars earned 2nd Place Honors at the state competition held at Georgia College and State University on Thursday, March 12. Their project, “Which type of ground covering holds moisture the best?”, showcased their curiosity, critical thinking, and dedication to scientific exploration. This accomplishment reflects not only their hard work, but also the strong support and leadership of their teacher. Congratulations to these amazing students for exemplifying excellence and making their school community proud!

Today was impactful! The Emerging 100 of Atlanta came to Heritage Academy to present “Tying It All Together,” reminding our young men that every lesson in life, just like tying a tie, takes patience, practice, and persistence. You may not get it right the first time, but with consistency, you will get there. They also spoke about the importance of image, respect, and how you show up in every room. Experiences like this give these young men the chance to see real examples of excellence and what it looks like in action. #APSExcellence #AtlantaPublicSchools

Atlanta Public Schools will operate on a remote learning day today, Monday, March 16 due to the impending storm. These conditions are expected to potentially create hazardous travel for buses.  The previously scheduled early release creates logistical challenges that prevent us from operating on a delay to allow the storm to pass. Middle school drop-off would overlap with elementary school pickup, making it challenging to safely adjust the schedule. Schools and teachers will share specific information about virtual learning options directly with families this morning.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to prioritize the safety of our students and staff.

APS alum Judge Hatchett visited the incredible young ladies at Peyton Forest Elementary School and read her new book, GOAL GIRLS. 📚✨ The book may look like an alphabet book, but each letter represents a career that young girls can aspire to. The final page invited each student to draw a vision board of what they hope to become or accomplish one day. 💭🌟 The girls proudly shared their dreams with one another and with Judge Hatchett. Representation truly matters, and this was a powerful way to celebrate National Women’s History Month. 💜 @TheJudgeHatchet #APSExcellence #AtlantaPublicSchools

Leaders from Sacramento State were welcomed to Atlanta College and Career Academy for a powerful day focused on connection, opportunity, and future pathways for students. Sixty-five scholars from Atlanta Public Schools had the opportunity to engage with J. Luke Wood, President of Sacramento State, Matt Ward, Vice President, along with members of the Financial Aid and Recruitment Team. Together, they explored college pathways, career readiness, and the many opportunities available to students beyond high school. The day was made even more impactful thanks to the generosity of Rufus Montgomery, who pledged an additional $1,000 scholarship for APS students enrolling in Fall 2026. Moments like this highlight the power of strong partnerships and the bright futures ahead for APS scholars. Today’s Teacher Highlight goes to Sixth Grade Sutton Middle School Science & Design teacher Ms. Tasha Rainey. With over 16 years of experience, Ms. Rainey continues to show what it truly means to teach from the heart. The energy, care, and connection she brings to her students can be felt from the beginning of class to the very end. She gives her all every single day. Ms. Rainey also shared appreciation for her ESOL Co-Teacher Hikaru Sahara, who she says is more than a teammate. Together they’ve created a classroom filled with joy, teamwork, and excellence. Thank you both for the love and dedication you pour into your students every day.
