At the Ohio Statehouse today, we remembered the horrors of the Holocaust during the 46th Annual Ohio Governor's Holocaust Commemoration. Tragically, antisemitic acts and speech still continue around the world — proving why we must take time to purposefully reflect on the critical lessons of the Holocaust, so as not to repeat them. We simply cannot tolerate the rising tide of antisemitic rhetoric. All of us must loudly speak out against hatred.

@FischerKing64 @marshalldukat The pope has been clear that the position of the Church is that nations can protect and control their borders as they see fit but respect the dignity of refugees. This does not mean we have to import the masses of the global south.

Pope Benedict XVI gave an interview to German journalists shortly after his election. One of the things he talked about was ‘unity in diversity.’ He meant that while there is one overarching church, the various nations are unique and express the faith in their own way. Implicit in that is that the various nations are worth preserving. I don’t understand why these bishops cannot advocate charity for the poor without actually importing tens of thousands of people that threaten national integrity and generate social problems. Unless they really do just want to import Catholics because they see shrinking congregations.

My kids watch extremely minimal tv/movies but they have watched Little Bear and Kipper the Dog as we are closing in on the last hours of a long car trip.
They are both from the 90s and they are so slow and relaxing. The VOs, the music, the animation - all of it is basically as gentle as you get in tv form.
I believe a lot of kids shows are totally psychotic and make their brains more addled than they need to be. I don't feel that with Little Bear or Kipper the Dog though. They don't annoy me when I hear them. They feel like 1997 PBS and that's basically the least brain frying option and the best you can get.

@Catholicizm1 I suspect there is more to the alleged “Avignon” comment than either side wants to acknowledge. In its essence, it simply means the secular power attempts to establish a counter to the Pope’s moral and spiritual authority for the allegiance of state subjects.
