Question for the #WritingCommunity - when do you start querying? When the manuscript is finished? After a revision or two? How do you know if your #WIP is "ready?" #amwriting

When you typo a word so badly even autocorrect doesn't know what to do with it. Got google docs like 🤷‍♂️

I have a Masters in English literature, I've written a couple of books. Nothing fancy, never been published or anything, but all that to say I've spent a lot of time studying words and how they go together. Which makes it crushing when you don't have the right words to help

@PauleneTurner I'm not sure how but I've seemed to find the nexus of X bots. Been getting a couple "follows" a day from profiles with no posts! I wouldn't mind so much but I'm pretty sure they unfollow shortly after

Don't you love it when you check bios of those Following before following back (only one in 4 is an actual writer these days). Then instantly get a 'thank you for following'. You read the full bio of the 'aspiring author' & they're actually an 'enthusiastic book marketer'! Gah!

@PauleneTurner Did they give you any sort of explanation? Or is it literally just "oh yeah I guess we did. Sucks"

It's a battle at times. A local bookshop agreed to take my indie books on consignment (they pay 0 up front, take 45pct, I get 9c per book). I found out they'd run out of stock & turned away readers asking for the book, rather than calling me for more! Writing mentors? Yeah right!

The author podcast has been named! I shall be the host of a new series, interviewing indie authors initially. Later down the line, I’ll be bringing on aspiring writers and owners of indie presses/publishing houses. ‘BOOKED’ will be going live in December 2024. I’ll be booking my guest authors over the next month for meet and greet calls to discuss topics and test audio/video capabilities ❤️

@MaroftheBooks Encyclopedias and Doris Kinderly reference books more than thesauruses (thesauri?) Though I did make more than one attempt to read the dictionary

@PauleneTurner I know timing can make a big difference on engagement, and who knows why people respond to different things. The algorithm is ever-changing!

In my mornings, I put out tweets with little response. I feel like someone whittering on at a party that everyone tries to ignore. Then, at some point hours later, I get a surge of replies. Anyone else find this?

@PauleneTurner I know the conversion is usually low, but I've seen people get it higher using pre-existing email lists. You don't have to pay or offer a rebate. If you provide enough value to your audience a lot of people will leave you a review just because you asked.

What would you all say the rate of read to review is? One in 10. One in fifty? One in 1,000?? #WritingCommunity #amwriting

I’m convinced that the same people who pack for a trip without a list are the same people who write a book without an outline. If you’re a plotter, do you make packing lists for trips? And if you’re a pantser, do you risk ending up with a bag full of underwear and little else?
