@PopeThe48695 @ClerkOhms @StatisticUrban I’m not going to be a whiny cunt about being taxed if it helps give care to orphans
English

At a certain point you simply have to say to the libertarians "no, wrong." An orphaned baby does in fact have the human right not to starve to death in the street. Any form of society that can't guarantee that right is bad.

@ClerkOhms @StatisticUrban Why would you use force to prevent the government from providing care for a helpless child
English

@StatisticUrban Then I'm equally justified in using force to prevent the theft. It is theft by every definition. More people, including governments would hesitate to use "coercive force" if they thought a proportionate (or disproportionate) violent reprisal was forthcoming.

@WillSloanEsq They’re gonna make him put the stress on the first syllable of “despicable”

@shagbark_hick Buddy you look like you take care of the place when The Master is away

I think it's profoundly funny that in an era where slovenly dress predominates -- and at a time when few would make mention of even the most ugly, garrish outfits -- it's VERBOTEN to dress "weirdly."
You're "drawing attention to yourself" if you don't wear the polyester uniform sold by Aeropostale at the mall. Absolute uniformity is required, even though the "uniform" was invented by a gang of corporate knuckleheads more or less yesterday.
God forbid a woman wear a nice linen skirt instead of skin-tight leggings made of fertility-killing plastic. Heaven help us if a man wears any hat other than a little-league-style "baseball cap."
Yet while those who dress that way are hassled for looking "weird," the streets are teeming with people ambling about in their pajamas, women exposing their finer cracks and crevasses in surgical detail, and men wearing garb that was formerly reserved only for homosexuals in Key West.
It seems to me that those calling us "weird" for dressing as we do have no real alternative to propose. If the message is: "wear the expensive corporate polyester crap at the mall or else," I'm not interested.

Pedantic Killjoy@PedanticKilljoy
@Empty_America I gotta believe that 90% of it is that he and his family dress like cosplay Mennonites. This might play better coming from someone who isn't so ostentatiously weird.
English

@sarobertsonca So… politicians *shouldn’t* try to persuade people?
English

@WillSloanEsq Please tell me that was either a) the review for Garfield or b) very much NOT the review for Garfield
English

@KingFarmer13 @LukewSavage Oh no not more taxes on the rich and giving colonized peoples their land back, how awful, please don’t, I beg you
English

@LukewSavage She came out of nowhere, ran on pure identity + grift, and you’re already lining her up for a safe seat? That’s not merit. That’s the NDP quota system working as designed.“Great MP” incoming! More taxes, more land claims, zero results.
English

@LukewSavage I put her second on my ballot. I like the cut of her jib.
English

@born_insect @funnierhandle This is just MAGA rebranded lol
You a DemSoc in the Amerian Academic definition, which is out of touch with reality
English

for the 1st time in most of our adult lives, the NDP is now an explicitly democratic socialist party
I think how the left in Canada relates to the NDP will require catching up to this new reality
Lewis isn’t our saviour but he gives us the basis for movement politics
I’m happy
cade@Cadeyrnn
Avi Lewis wins the NDP leadership with 56.4% of the vote.
English

Today, the federal New Democratic Party selected its new leader.
It is clear that the direction of the federal party under this new leader, someone who openly cheered for the defeat of the Alberta NDP government, is not in the interests of Alberta.
Last year, Alberta’s New Democrats voted overwhelmingly to make membership in the federal party optional. Many thousands of our provincial members, including myself, are not members of the federal party. We are a big tent and welcome the support of people who vote for every federal party.
We believe in Alberta and we believe in Canadian energy and the good jobs it creates. We believe in more pipelines and in reducing emissions. We believe in strong public services and a strong jobs-driven economy to help pay for them. This is what we are fighting for every day.
Albertans deserve federal leaders who understand the importance of Alberta and our essential role in the federation.
Our focus is not on what the federal NDP says or does. Our fight is with Danielle Smith and the separatist UCP. Albertans deserve a better government, and we are here to be that better government.

@funnierhandle Mulcair’s left eye dispenses Lagavulin and the right dispenses Port Askaig 100-proof

@funnierhandle I can already taste the tears of neolibs, centrists and melts as though they were delicious drams of Islay scotch

@ericvideos91 @Charles_string_ It’s the 4th most populous country in the world. It makes sense to have at least one or two guys there.
I know and accept that my taxes help pay for what the cbc does because I’m not a crybaby fuckin’ imbecile
English

@Charles_string_ Do you really not understand this?
How many news stories come out of Indonesia dude? That are relevant to 🇨🇦?
CBC is largely taxpayer funded (do you even know this?)
We are paying for that Indonesian correspondent
It’s lunacy cbc has a position for that specific country
English

@Revvedupprofits @LongZavier @souljagoyteller I was going to reply with something like “what are you even talking about dude” but looked through your post history it appears you’re a dumbass
English

@born_insect @LongZavier @souljagoyteller Sure but pretty much no one makes that argument for it.
I know what he's trying to argue and can see through his bs.
English

@Revvedupprofits @LongZavier @souljagoyteller …also… “play cover”?? He’s a practicing Muslim and he’s open about it. What’s there to cover?
English

@Revvedupprofits @LongZavier @souljagoyteller OP is arguing against laïcité, which is a specific, extremely French, and in practice selective & hypocritical stance on the role of religion in the public sector. Under the guise of secularism, it targets those who visibly/openly belong to minority religions, which is wrong.
