Gentleman Scientist. Spend my time obsessing over the calculation of optimal addition chains. Totally useless really.

@LeonardREW @davepl1968 @woofknight Well it is on price. Old stuff cheap. New stuff with better properties is expensive. Change your lifestyle and many t2d people can avoid needing it at all.

@davepl1968 @woofknight I think it depends on the type. People want some new fangled insulin that's expensive rather than the basic version that's cheap. For many they have to get their diet in order to use the basic insulin.

@ManOnThePen @yakriver Easy on tirzepatide. Not counting calories is why the drug is working for you. I am down 75+lbs the first six months dropping 10lbs a month. You got to stop eating too much.

I’ve battled obesity all my adult life. The last time I lost meaningful weight (before GLP-1), I was starving myself (1,200 calories a day on a hospital sanctioned program). The food provided met modest protein requirements, but was nothing but highly processed trash. It left me feeling sluggish and hungry constantly. Not to mention the headaches. But the scale was moving down… Until life happened. Wife had an emergency at 6 months pregnant. One week in a hospital 2 hours from “home”. Hospital cafeteria was basically a fast food restaurant. No way to stick to the program as prescribed. It all came unraveled. Like it always would. This is what fighting obesity is like. You can follow the plan to a T, and for a while it might even work, but if it only works under perfect conditions, it is hard to hold onto when real life inevitably steps in. That’s why GLP-1 is an absolute miracle for those who need it. (These are pics I still have in my camera roll from the hospital food options)

@00Core00 @davepl1968 I think this is an old PDU. Basically a power strip for a rack. The often have features like monitors.

@davepl1968 When you say "power center"... do you mean "Power strip"??? Serious question... Or do you mean like.. a UPS? I'm confused, b/c I've never heard "Power center" used in lingo...?

These old DEC power centers are great - they plug into a NEMA L30P outlet, provide two full 30A circuits, a full breaker, switched and unswitched outlets, and a remote trigger. They sell for $100 or so on eBay and are way better than a regular power center, especially in a rack!

A small green flag with a crescent on a state rep desk in Hartford Connecticut has the internet acting like the Pentagon was breached. American politics in 2026 is genuinely something nobody could have written as fiction because it would have been rejected for being too unrealistic.

@davepl1968 wait what? Is there a cost in sharing multiple memfiles between multiple processes vs “Ram” inside one process with multiple “threads”?

Time to learn "memory-mapped files"! I'm processing 15,000 video game frames a second, doing inference to generate the next move, and storing them all in an array. I WAS using an in-memory vector, but I was pushing the limits of the 512GB in this system! So I switched over to memory mapped files (I'm using nmap on Linux, but it's the same as memory-mapped files on Windows). Memory-mapped files are one of those OS tricks that feel like cheating — in a good way. Instead of doing this: read(fd, buffer, 4096); process(buffer); You do this: ptr = mmap(file); process(ptr); That’s it. The file just appears in your address space. Your file is now in memory. Instantly. No explicit reads. No manual buffering. No memcpy gymnastics. Why it’s cool: • The OS handles paging automatically • You get zero-copy I/O (the page cache is your buffer) • Random access becomes trivial • Huge files become easy to work with • It enables super fast IPC like mine When you touch a byte, the CPU faults in just that page. If you never touch part of the file, it never loads. Demand paging does the heavy lifting. Even better: two processes can map the same file and share memory without explicit shared memory APIs. It’s basically “files as RAM.” Conceptually, this idea goes back to Multics, BSD mmap(), Mach, and eventually into Windows NT’s section objects. We used it in the Windows Shell to replace the shared segments in Win95. It allowed us to access the communal data without exposing one process's memory to another. Once you internalize it, normal file I/O starts to feel… primitive. Memory-mapped files are one of those “you’re thinking about the machine correctly now” moments.

Yasser Pacheco, an ILLEGAL ALIEN, was arrested in Michigan for reportedly operating a diesel theft scheme where he stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of fuel. Pacheco reportedly attempted to fight police during his arrest and fled from officers before being caught. This is who Democrats want to protect.

@clift_m @ReedWade61516 @megynkelly No. That ship sailed when men started calling us chest feeders and menstruators. When they started invading women's sports, locker rooms, bathrooms, shelters, sororities, prisons. Where women were raped and assaulted. Thousands of sports prizes stolen. That. Ship. Sailed.

@iran_freed0m @ReedWade61516 @megynkelly You need to lookup complete androgen insensitivity to understand this. People with this can have female genitals but internal testicles. They may not know they have this till puberty. They think they are women and who can argue with that?

@ReedWade61516 @megynkelly Lookup androgen insensitivity. They think they are women because they look like women. Maybe they shouldn't compete but they aren't men.

I will never “understand“ the psychology behind what drives men to want to “beat“ women in sporting events that are expressly meant for women. I “get it“ when I see videos and read about transvestites who lip sync to popular pop songs while on stage and gyrating in women’s clothing; I get that, and the attention whoring that it entails. But this “ men in women’s sports competition“ thing; it’s inexplicable in rational, and reasonable terms, and can only be addressed as deviant psychology that is subject to forensic examination.
