It was a pleasure talking with @amdulin about where higher education is headed. At its core, @umdglobalcampus has always focused on meeting learners where they are. That same mindset is shaping how we approach AI. As AI reshapes learning and work, the priority is strengthening the human skills that matter most: judgment, communication, creativity, and discernment. humanistxyz.substack.com/p/the-ai-nativ…

@nonregemesse I want a series from Deborah’s perspective, please. I’m not looking forward to becoming a widow, but glad to know I have a new option.

@zuess05 Do things that *integrate* AI but will not be replaced by it. Being a veterinarian will be a win for a while. A dentist. An oral surgeon. etc. Also - look for areas of current shortages, for example, healthcare. A nurse can get a job in a hot minute. So many options.

@johnkonrad Congratulations! The right fit is better than the right name, so your daughter's preferences matter when it comes to retention. You fear paying for "woke" but if daughter comes home thinking the same as when she left, you've wasted your $. Look for critical thinking skills!

Traveling for work, the travel goddess had gifted me with no lines at TSA, but had the last laugh because I booked myself into the wrong hotel. Ha ha ha!

I love it when a dinner date turns into drinks at another venue. That’s when you know you’re about to have the most romantic 3 months you’ve ever experienced.

I’m loving following Mark’s thinking here. This is where the futurists may be right about intentionally building your trust network. What I think Mark may be arguing is that he trusts the human in the loop.

After reading all the posts/articles about how agents will take over the world, and I think they will have an impact. I'm updating my position to reduce their importance for communications outside an organization. Why ? Spam filters and filter agents. I had Claude write an agent thqt shows me all the email newsletters I get that have an unsubscribe button. Takes me two seconds to click the check boxes for the ones I don't like and unsubscribe I've also started getting way too many "I saw your linkedin profile and you are a good candidate " lol Those emails shouldn't get to me. They will get caught up in future spam filters. Yes there will be agents who say they can bypass them and they will battle it out. The same with mobile calls But I think there will be so many junk emails and calls, Gmail and voice carriers will promote the fact that they can stop the agent email assault we all are starting to face. Won't that undermine all those "marketing departments or companies in a "bottle" agents ? I think it will. And so many Agentic companies built for external communications won't get past those spam filters, it just might require us janky humans to write emails or a lot of white listing efforts by us humans to make decisions on what to let through Thoughts ?

@mcuban I was teaching intro to computers, and the hardest concept for the over 40 group to get was the use of the mouse. I found if I left solitaire up & open on their computers when they arrived, and “stalled” starting the class on time, they taught themselves. Thanks for the memory!

An article from the 90s explaining how in the 1980s, personal computers changed the dynamic of college vs high school workers. College grads learned how to use PCs and grew wages faster Mind you, this was when interest rates were 15pct, white collar unemployment was the highest it’s been any non covid year, general unemployment was 10pct, there was a recession, 18pct mortgages, and the start of the savings and loan industry collapse. The economy was a mess. Except it was the start of the “digital revolution “ which lead to change. Here we are at the early days of the AI revolution. I think it will be very analogous to what happened back then. If you think learning how to use Clause seems daunting, imagine being 50 yrs old in 1983, not knowing how to type, using a 1.0 key adding machine with a tape roll to do all your work as an analyst and realizing you had to figure out how your brand new IBM PC and lotus 1-2-3 worked. Or having only used a typewriter your entire career , then having to learn the new PC and WordStar. Trust me. WordStar key combinations were far harder to learn than telling Claude what you want done Lots of people couldn’t figure it out. Those who did were more productive Ctrl QA with AI nber.org/digest/sep97/h…

So the school counselor just called me to ask if I was aware that my daughter planned and led a student protest today where 100+ students walked out of their 3rd period to hold a BLM rally on the yard bc they feel teachers treat the black students different & unfairly. She’s 12😭

My son just had a medical incident on a @JetBlue flight to Boston. I lost count of how many medical people rushed to assist. The JetBlue team was amazing. My son will be fine, not enough thanks to everyone. ❤️❤️❤️

@cmclymer @MeghannMyers_ I was flying, had my earbuds in, kept turning up the volume because I thought the plane noise was the problem. My earbuds hadn’t paired with my computer. Thank goodness a colleague tapped me on the shoulder and I quickly paired my device, mortified that I had made that mistake.
