UK SPY AGENCY SACKS MAN FOR SAYING WHAT EVERYONE KNEW
A man called Stuart rang a radio show in 2022. He did not leak state secrets. He did not betray his country. He went on @LBC and said the government's most senior civil servant should resign over a sexual assault scandal.
Two days later he was suspended. Two months later he was fired.
Stuart had worked for GCHQ for 17 years.
Now here is the part that will make your jaw drop.
Intelligence service employees in the UK have no right to whistleblower protection. None. Zero. Not even when what they reported has nothing to do with spying or national security.
Think about what that actually means.
GCHQ worker could discover a colleague planning to murder someone, report it, get sacked for it, and the law would offer them nothing.
That is not a hypothetical. That is how the law works right now.
Stuart is taking the government to tribunal with law firm @LeighDay_Law.
His lawyers argue that under the Human Rights Act, employment courts must extend basic whistleblower rights to intelligence staff.
If he wins, it changes the law for every single person working in UK intelligence.
He said something true. In public. About people in power.
They sacked him for it.
