I’m in love with this sentence: “Consistency looks like nothing is happening, until everything changes.”

We are pattern-matching machines who are trying to find a way to make sense of a world that is completely different and has no equivalent. What we need to do is recognize that and start creating new concepts. Otherwise, we’ll end nowhere except extremely frustrated and exhausted. Trust me; I speak from experience.

Honestly it’s getting hard to even find historical parallels for what’s happening in America right now. I’ve been trying because I’m a giant nerd about this stuff, but the wealth disparity data is genuinely insane at this point. Like the numbers are so distorted economists basically had to create entire new categories and frameworks just to explain what the hell is happening. That’s not normal.

You can't build anything intellectually serious without three things: 1. Believing you're smarter than you probably are 2. A gut sense for what's worth pursuing before you have proof 3. A weird love for the tedious shit nobody else wants to do Serious thinking needs these three essentials.

Writing improves thinking. Writing improves thinking. Writing improves thinking. Students who regularly wrote showed stronger critical thinking and reasoning skills than students using traditional quiz-based learning. Writing doesn’t just record ideas. It develops them.

Complexity is not an intrinsic property of a problem. It's a property of the relationship between a problem and an observer. Once you know the shape of the problem it is no longer complex.
