I got bruised at one of my previous companies. gave it everything. got my heart broken instead. wasn't ready to play at that level yet. the opportunity made my career but also shattered me into pieces. didn't even know that's what happened until therapy recently. spent months looking for easy exits. from becoming a stay-at-home mom to buying a laundromat (yes really). anything but getting back up there and facing it. here's what nobody tells you about getting knocked down at work... your brain starts protecting you in weird ways. makes you think you want different things. simpler things. safer things. but that's not you talking. that's fear. took me way too long to realize I was running. if I'd known, I would've turned around and fought sooner. but I didn't let it win. never do. that's the thing about grit. it's not about avoiding the fall. it's about getting up every single time. coming back stronger. better. that heartbreak? it taught me my edges. showed me where to grow. now I play at that level and beyond.
