@IWLA_org Dr. Wilson is fantastic! I agree. I have a degree in environmental science, have conducted independent research, and lead community science projects and STILL hesitate to call myself a “scientist”.

@DiamonClark Dr. Sacoby Wilson, U of Maryland School of Public Health, spoke at our convention last week and said we should expand our definition of scientist to include community volunteers who collect data & promote environmental health & justice. There's a need & role for these scientists.

What are the minimum qualifications to consider oneself a “scientist”? …asking for a friend 😬

I’ve been sharing my naturalist practice with my community. And I continue to learn with and from them. We are re-learning. We are decolonizing. We are liberating. We are respecting nature. We are giving a damn- about the future.

I am an #naturalist. My practice is rooted in #liberation, #leisure, and #resistance. It’s taken me to far away places, on wild adventures, and led me right back to myself.

Been reflecting on my role as I facilitate an all Black class of Maryland Master Naturalist trainees and want to highlight the history of Black naturalists- Past, Present, and Future. a thread.

Today I learned that greenhouse gases take about 50 yrs to be released from the atmosphere. Even if we stop our emissions today, our climate will continue to change for the next 50 years- and it’s already hot, y’all. Look at what’s happening to our planet.
