This post is problematic for a number of reasons. A thread…🧵 1. For those attempting to make sense of Trump’s victory and the rise of the far-right across Europe - look no further than the PMs statement below. Whether you like it or not, the far-right has a set of common narratives. We can probably all recite them…

I'm determined to deliver growth, create wealth and put more money in people’s pockets. This can only be achieved by working in partnership with leading businesses, like @BlackRock, to capitalise on the UK’s position as a world leading hub for investment.

Worth pointing out that the most likely result of these numbers, if replicated at the next general election, would be a Labour minority propped up the Lib Dems - who would probably ask for a big move back towards the EU.

Seems Lewis Goodall comes into this interview with an opinion he wanted to amplify through his guest. Good of Mandelson to not allow this, and to instead provide viewers of the News Agents with a point of view they probably rarely get to hear.

It's been three months since I moved into my MP office and we are still waiting for a phone number from @bt_uk. Not only annoying for us, but this deprives anyone in South Devon from contacting their MP by phone. Not everyone is on email. Why on earth does it take so long?

@DawnButlerBrent This is why we need to retire ‘fixing the foundations’ and ‘black hole’. Focus relentlessly on the future and what is being built. And talk about it in simple terms.

@ShippersUnbound @RoryStewartUK I don’t think I said she was a great candidate (nor did Rory). Just the platform doesn’t need to be junked completely. Dems ran on the same platform down ballot, flipped house seats and kept senate seats.

We can empathise with voters + accept the result but Trump’s victory does not make his program or vision better. We were wrong to believe Kamala Harris would win. We were not wrong to believe that she should have won. Or that the values + vision that she represents can win again

@RoryStewartUK Rory, she was a terrible candidate, who couldn’t explain why she wanted the job. She was signally incapable of explaining her values or vision

If this deal is on offer we would be utter fools not to take it. What could the EU possibly offer to make it worthwhile not to get an exemption from US tariffs? And does anyone for a second think that France or Germany wouldn’t take such a deal, in our position?
Charles Grant@CER_Grant

Maybe. But one senior UK diplomat sees an alternative scenario. Trump hates the EU but quite likes the UK. He could offer the Brits a privileged position (fewer tariffs?) in Europe so long as they differentiate themselves from the EU - and don't line up closely with it. /5

@keiranpedley You could see it in his eyes yesterday, Given he’s not going to be accepted into the media ecosystem, going back to politics makes sense. He also has the grievance narrative set up.

Prediction. At some point there will be genuine discussions about Boris Johnson coming back and ‘doing a Trump’. Wouldn’t be the first time!

@JoshKraushaar The campaign is almost entirely online now, yet they focus on bombarding the electorate with weird text messages and counting how many doors they knock. I’m not a professional campaigner, but this feels obvious.

“Biden won 18-29 year olds by a massive 25-point margin. Harris won them by only 13 points. Put bluntly, her performance among young voters was an abject disaster for Democrats and a troubling omen for the party’s political future.” puck.news/kamalas-wasted…
