Performed on Top of the Pops in January 1979, Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick became the defining hit for The Blockheads. Released in November 1978 as a standalone single, it reached number one on the UK Singles Chart for one week. Written by Ian Dury and Chas Jankel, the song stood out for its sharp wordplay, funk-driven groove, and Norman Watt-Roy’s distinctive slap bass line. Its success helped push new wave and pub rock into the mainstream, with this era marking the band’s commercial peak.

Today we replaced the gilded (several times re-gilded and cut) French 18th century frame with a Dutch 17th century Ebony hollow with ripple sight edge on Rembrandt’s Self Portrait at the Age of 34 - now R. has a tangible presence in the room, the illusion has come to life.
