@treanor_claire @simonlewis It’s a state service and should cater for all children, not just those of particular religions. We don’t have hospitals specifically for those of a particular faith and nor should we have taxpayer-funded schools set up on those lines. Religion classes could still be opted into.

@finbarmcd @simonlewis @ConorJCallaghan An alternative word would be segregation - which is what we do in our education system. Non Catholic children are literally segregated from their peers on a daily basis in state-funded education. Whatever you call it, the practice is hard to defend 🤷🏻‍♀️

@simonlewis @ConorJCallaghan The use of the word 'sectarian' is a bit loaded as it's associated with NI. If you said 'faith-based' or even Catholic / Protestant, it would poll better! Many people think education without religion loses something, i.e. is more utilitarian and less value based.

Good to see this topic being discussed as many parents are not aware of their right to withdraw their child from religious indoctrination in schools. The Dept of Education needs to stop deflecting and take responsibility for how state-funded schools behave in this area #edchatie
