@JNorthcroft Rumours he’s heading to Bristol City, as a new sporting director. Any sense what he might bring to that?

The abrupt departure of James Ellis means only Mikel Arteta remains from the brains trust that rebuilt Arsenal. In 16 months a sporting director, his deputy, the exec vice-chair, academy director - and now technical director have gone. A look inside what's going on 🧵

@RobinNestBCFC @TheExiledRobin I get that and agree, but equally the whole ‘it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay’ argument misses that point entirely, what if the people willing to pay, or spend, aren’t the sort of ppl you want anywhere near our club?

For all the complaints, all those who want new ownership - I get it. We could spend more / better. But for those that choose to horribly abuse the guy who’s sunk £200m +, build what’s built, created hundreds of jobs - maybe some perspective needed? bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

@TheExiledRobin Ultimately of course a price is set by what people are willing to pay - and we did find someone seemingly willing to pay it last year

@TheExiledRobin 100% this … just spending more, or selling to someone in the hope they might, can’t be the answer. Antagonising the guy who’s keeping us afloat doesn’t seem massively sensible either!

@KurtSchlichter No, you changed everything, when the guy you elected turned his back on the alliances that sustained everything and led you down a whole different road. Don’t ridicule, threaten and insult and then cry when those same allies question if they want to follow every deranged word.

The Europeans are not dealing with “a man.” They are dealing with the United States of America. The United States needed the most innocuous kind of cooperation from them. They denied the United States that cooperation. The implied argument is that their obligations within our alliance depend on whether they like the guy we chose as our president. “Sure, we’re allies…if we approve of who you elected.” Nope. We are not going to forget, and we’re not going to forgive. I’m indifferent to their excuses or their rationalizations. The United States of America needed their help and not very much help. They turned us down. That changes everything. And they aren’t going to like how it changes everything.
Gerard Baker@gerardtbaker

The casuistry here is remarkable. This is the simple reality: Like most Americans, most Europeans think this war is a bad idea.Their governments are being asked to take a huge risk by a man who has proved unreliable, volatile and intemperate over and over. Who would do that?

When this is over, the western part of NATO will never be the same. Spain, England, France and Italy have sold us out, as they too often have a history of doing. Eastern European nations are the heart of NATO. They spend money on defense, know how to fight and love the US. France particularly deserves fault and blame. From supporting China and Russia at the UN to denying Americans overflight rights, they’re doing what they’ve always done - showing weakness, while cutting deals with terrorists. (The reason the US has a Marine Corps and Navy is unlike France, we refused to pay a ransom to the Barbary Pirates. France is always happy to cut a deal.) Wars have unintended consequences as nations show their true colors. NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause.

Atmosphere was superb and certainly had a little more edge to it - some negative chants early but they got lost in the enjoyment & tension of the game. Definitely felt to me there was a feeling around of whoever the manager is and whoever the owner is, this is OUR club ❤️👊

Good, very fun away day 🙏 City looked re-energised, thought they were very good for the first 65 or so mins, until we tired and let them come at us a bit. Suddenly looked a bit disorganised & vulnerable, but still dangerous on the break but God, we need some striker investment

He can't leave his house without security. Despite credible death threats and being physically attacked on multiple occasions by morally fake, love-not-hate lefties he carries on. Already wealthy, famous and successful he could be enjoying his retirement now. He carries on because he hates what the Tories and Labour have done to our country and he is building a movement and party to reverse it. Happy birthday @Nigel_Farage! May God keep you safe 🙏

@RobinNestBCFC It seems I'm in the minority. I can't say it's the right move bringing him in, but given they have, for the reasons stated, I thought he came across as open, honest, positive, sensible & so a good fit for the role. Of course he's not here for the long term, everyone knew that.

Well! Roy was honest that’s for sure. Doesn’t know much about how the club’s been doing, the Championship or any of our players. Will caveat that by saying neither would some hot young coach from Europe… Initially looked like he didn’t know why he’s here - but did warm up

@BS3Rob Unfair I think, we all knew the timescale of the appointment, surely it’s good not to have any conflict or doubt around that. Coming over well I think, a decent bloke with a wealth of knowledge. If you take on board the stated reasons for him coming, everything here makes sense.

What? All of BBC Radio? Including R1 and R2, which could easily be provided by the market. And R5 already is. So we’re down to R3/4. At most.
Angela@angelazhay

@afneil The only thing that needs preserving iis BBC Radio. I would have said the World Service but that seems to have collapsed in on itself, it is really a shadow of its former self. Some drama is great e.g The Other Bennet Sister but that can go anywhere. They gave up on Sport so?

Daily Mail journalists aren’t going after your family (as you are aware, there is more we could write if we were). I’m a freelance journalist who spoke to your family members who are frightened by the Jew hate in your party. They are frightened by what you have given the green light to. While you once fought Jew hatred, now you indulge it because, as we both see, it is popular. Other political groups have discovered this in the past. Shame on you @ZackPolanski Shame on you.
Zack Polanski@ZackPolanski

This is why Daily Mail journalists are going after my family now. The right wing propaganda machine will not work on the Green Party. We're ready to end Rip Off Britain, end the cost of living crisis and make hope normal again.
