@GeorgeElek @slbsn Exactly. With respect @slbsn questioning how the punishment could swing so much from when Leeds “felt this was done all over Europe” misses a difference: that’s demonstrably not true of Southampton who knew they were cheating, or do they wear Eastleigh kits all over Europe too?

@slbsn When you ask “how we’ve got here” from 2019, it seems pretty clear that Leeds’ punishment was too lenient and they should have been hit with a hefty points deduction, and would be if it happened today. I can’t see it can be the whole basis for arguing disproportionate punishment

Using 'he's German, he didn't know...' to defend Eckert's actions (or mitigate them) is so insulting to all the managers that have come to this country and played by the rules. The people that worked with Eckert, the analysts and coaches, knew not to do it. And yet they did.

Told @SouthamptonFC lawyers were intending to work overnight re EFL appeal given time they were getting the precise reasons for decision. Club feel punishment exceptionally excessive, compared to Leeds. Club staff told by chief executive Phil Parsons club are confident yesterday's decision will be reversed. All parties agreed to get situation dealt with today so match can take place on Saturday.

An Independent Disciplinary Commission has today expelled Southampton from the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs after the Club admitted to multiple breaches of EFL Regulations related to the unauthorised filming of other Clubs’ training. In addition, the Club has received a four-point deduction that will be applied to the 2026/27 Championship table. The effect of today’s order is that Middlesbrough are reinstated into the 2026 Play-Offs and will proceed to the Play-Off Final against Hull City.
