Today I Learned that a pet parrot named Willie alerted his owner, Megan Howard, when a toddler she was babysitting began choking by screaming “mama, baby” and flapping his wings as the child turned blue. Megan rushed over in time to perform the Heimlich maneuver, saving the girl’s life. She later said that without Willie’s warning, she might not have reached the child in time. For helping save the girl’s life, Willie was awarded the Red Cross Animal Lifesaver Award.
