@zriboua This is an extremely potent argument. The current strait of Hormuz closure is exactly what will happen in a Taiwan conflict. We know the Europeans are cowards and won’t join in to do anything to help. China wouldn’t get any oil from there anyway because we’d control Malacca…

My latest: The Iran Question Is All About China Why Operation Epic Fury Is the Opening Act of the Indo-Pacific Century The Iran question was never about Iran. Remove the Islamic Republic from the equation and China loses its pawns for a Taiwan contingency. Leave it in place and the Middle East remains what Beijing designed it to be: a second front that Washington can never afford to leave and can never afford to stay in. Trump's strikes are the first move by an American president who appears to understand that the road to the Pacific runs through Tehran. zinebriboua.com/p/the-iran-que…

I want to respond to you, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it given that I don’t know if you’re arguing in good or bad faith. But nonetheless why not. To clarify, my piece as you can see is about potential geopolitical implications, movements that can be considered for long term effects of the operation if it succeeds in achieving its objectives with a high emphasis on if. That piece does not describe the tactical implications. It’s an important distinction. Second, the war isn’t over. A ceasefire is unlikely to hold in my opinion, but most importantly a ceasefire isn’t a deal, isn’t an end. Another important distinction.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday Iran is ready to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a good thing. "About 15 countries are now mobilized under French leadership for a strictly defensive mission, coordinated with Iran, to restore navigation when conditions are met," he said.

The IRGC say they’ve set up a “safe corridor” in the Strait of Hormuz, routing ships through Iranian territorial waters near Larak Island, close to the mainland and Qeshm. Transit through this corridor is controlled and requires Iranian approval, with some vessels reportedly paying for passage. Iranian-linked reports also warn that alternative routes in the strait may be mined or unsafe.

Iran told mediators it will limit ship crossings in the Strait of Hormuz to about a dozen per day and charge tolls of $1 million or more per ship under the US-brokered cease-fire, Wall Street Journal reported. "Only four ships passed Wednesday, the fewest in April, down from over 100 daily before the conflict. Iran requires advance toll arrangements paid in cryptocurrency or Chinese yuan," the report added.

You guys are overthinking this. President Trump outlined four strategic goals and then Hormuz became a fifth. So - 1. Missiles ✅ 2. Navy ✅ 3. Proxies ☑️. The Houthis mostly kept their heads down and Hezbollah is not covered by the ceasefire. The answer back is that Iraq is still touch and go. The answer to the answer is that Iranian command and control has been degraded. Let's say 65/35 at worst. 4. Hormuz 🤷. That's the point of the ceasefire and what today is about. This is just an integer: the number of ships that transit. 5. Nuclear 🤷. That's the point of negotiations and what the next two weeks are about. This is a binary: either Iran gives up its highly enriched uranium or it doesn't.

All eyes now shift to the Strait of Hormuz, whether or not it truly is open to mariners. Leaving Iran in any kind of control of the Strait is illegal under international law and highly problematic geopolitically. Three things I am watching as I monitor the cease-fire: One, is the Strait actually open? Two, is there a real follow on negotiation concerning the nuclear material? Three, where are US ground troops, both Marines and paratroopers, headed?

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez: Just today, Netanyahu launches his harshest attack against Lebanon since the offensive began. His contempt for life and international law is intolerable It's time to speak clearly: Lebanon must be included in the ceasefire. The international community must condemn this new violation of international law. The European Union must suspend its Association Agreement with Israel. And there must be no impunity for these criminal acts.

@EmmanuelMacron It’s easy, Hezbollah completely disbands and leaves the country. Thats what Israel wants and it’s what Lebanon wants. France wants to sell out the Lebanese to Hezbollah, which is no surprise since they have always sold out the weak.
