We're big fans of open source. I actually just put up a few PRs to improve prompt cache efficiency for OpenClaw specifically.
This is more about engineering constraints. Our systems are highly optimized for one kind of workload, and to serve as many people as possible with the most intelligent models, we are continuing to optimize that.
When you use an API key or overages it should still work. The issue was just subs.
If you still want to cancel, we're giving full refunds. We know not everyone realized this isn't something we support, and this is an attempt to make it clear and explicit.

Starting tomorrow at 12pm PT, Claude subscriptions will no longer cover usage on third-party tools like OpenClaw.
You can still use these tools with your Claude login via extra usage bundles (now available at a discount), or with a Claude API key.

@jake_researcher I think the vast majority of claw use is personal/performative so that one seems easy. I also think these are related. Pulling back on limits hurt real uses the last few weeks so instead kill off the personal uses via outside products.

I know it sucks. Fundamentally engineering is about tradeoffs, and one of the things we do to serve a lot of customers is optimize the way subscriptions work to serve as many people as possible with the best model.
Third party services are not optimized in this way, so it's really hard for us to do sustainably.
I did put up a few PRs to improve prompt cache hit rate for OpenClaw in particular, which should help for folks using it with Claude via API/overages.

@Koshirolzumi It's not about tokens, it's about our subscriptions being optimized for specific usage patterns. Lots of tradeoffs in building for such large scale, and one of them is optimizing systems for certain use cases and not others

Let’s summarize where we are after a 40+ day Democrat shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. 1) ICE and CBP are funded, thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts and the foresight of President Trump and Republicans in Congress. 2) After holding DHS and the American people hostage for over 40 days, Dems got ZERO restrictions that would prevent ICE and CBP agents from doing their jobs safely. 3) Due to Dem obstruction of the appropriations process, ICE and CBP will get even more funding through budget reconciliation. 4) Dems have once again established themselves as the “Open Borders, Defund the Police” party heading into an election. 5) Dem leadership has proven once again they can’t be trusted to make a deal.
