There’s an air B&B house near mine which is constantly in use by guests families. Just heard a mum shout at her child ‘What are you doing with that scone?!? Put that down!’ And I think that’s in the running for the most English thing of all time.

@_morijinn TBF, I’m willing to bet most people in this thread are unaware it’s actually HEAD up display. Sure we pretty much all say Heads and I’d say 90% of games write it with the s also, but the original acronym doesn’t have the word heads. There are ‘normies’ that know HUD though…

Rule zero of Japan: you can't outrun the jouzu, so just live with it. Seriously. getting jouzu'd isn't about your ability, it's about you being not Japanese. you only get jouzu'd once per person. it's okay.

@chiramu @SaGa_NeilB This is my problem exactly. It took me 3 attempts to get to episode 6 (I think) of DS because everyone was hyping it up. I always put it as: I don’t need a 40 episode Rasengan training arc like Naruto, but the protag just succeeds in every episode. I was like ‘what’s the point?’

I suspect that this may change in the next 5-10 years as anime goes more mainstream. There are lots of people who aren't JRPG lovers but play Final Fantasy. I suspect we will see more people who aren't anime lovers but enjoy Demon Slayer. This will affect anime loc norms.

I worked at this hotel before in 2021-2022 but it was covid back then so the borders were shut so all the guests were Japanese so this is actually my first time dealing with tourists from overseas

a guest at the hotel asked if we accepted US dollars as payment for their stay and looked super confused when I said no. I directed them to a currency converter but do other hotels in Japan accept USD??? like why did they just expect that we did?? genuine question btw
