One decade after starting this journey, our collaborative paper with @Gibson_lab is finally out: rdcu.be/dtupS. It reports chromosome assemblies of the related sea anemones @Nematostella and Scolanthus callimorphus. Will be an important resource for the community.

@jgschraiber Not to be too much of a spoil sport, but R does calculate a true p value that would be relevant in some Bonferroni corrections. In all of these cases where you see <2.2e-16, build the object and print the p value variable for the exact value.

It's nice to work in genomics, because you don't have to worry about p-hacking: every single test you run has a p-value < 2.2e-16 anyway!

@bioinformer Largest I know of are the chunks of lungfish chromosomes: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/datasets/genom… . The assembler seems to have maxed size out chromosomes out at 2GB.

@Ohnolog Isn't Turritopsis just effectively immortal and not a true biological immortal? A bit behind on the literature, but I thought it reversed development in response to aging rather than being truly immortal like Hydra/Nematostella?

I just checked. The preprint for BWA-MEM (from 2013) has been cited more than 8000 times. I always thought it is quite stupid for the journal to reject this manuscript, because otherwise it would have been a big contributor to its impact factor.
