You are a Star Wars fan. What happened is that large studios bought the brand and created new content with the same name, but that branding aside has little to nothing to do with Star Wars. Imho, The Mandalorian gets close to the original movies. The same thing happened to Star Trek. The original series and The Next Generation are both Star Trek. The rest is just Star Trek branded.

I grew up thinking I was a Star Wars fan, but every time a new Star Wars movie came out I hated it. I eventually realized I wasn’t a Star Wars fan, but just a guy who liked some 80s movies and a handful of video games that happened to use the same aesthetic and vocabulary.
