Today we are launching our new surface water flood maps which include small watercourses. These new maps provide a detailed and accurate picture of where flooding can occur from heavy rainfall, helping protect lives, properties and communities. The maps mark a major step forward in helping us understand the flood risk in an area, and what the impacts could be when surface water flooding happens. @bbcgms Glasgow is too wet for cycling to ever really take off, especially in winter, and is only going to get wetter. Glasgow gets about 40% more rain than Amsterdam or Copenhagen.

@afneil 10am here in West of Scotland and my solar panels are already generating 4x the amount of power that my 4 bed home is using, so my batteries are already being topped-up, but were still 65% charged from yesterday. Storage is the key. It’s not that difficult to understand.

Tonight, despite our massive wind capacity, the turbines are generating only 5% of our electricity needs. Gas is providing 46% and nuclear 18%. Of course there are plenty of times when wind provides much more. But on a coldish night like tonight when it’s only 5%, if we had no gas or nukes, where would the power come from?

@nlccountryparks Thanks for the response. People parking in the small car park and heading south into the woods don’t now pass a bin for a long distance, and are more likely to litter unfortunately.

@nlccountryparks Hi. Any chance of getting at least one bin back at the south west corner of Lochend Loch, Drumpellier please?

@timoldland I’m disappointed that manufacturers seem to be so slow to incorporate V2G tech as it could be another selling point to help win over consumers.

I’ve made a few posts recently where I’m very negative about certain EVs, had a few comments asking if I’m ‘realising my mistake’. No, FFS. No. I’ve been very negative about certain aspects of current EV design that are really pissing me off. Over complication, weight increases, focusing on performance, stupid features that nobody cares about and £100,000 vajazzles. EVs are very much the future, but manufacturers need to focus on smaller, cheaper, lighter EVs to get mass adoption. Tesla needs to get the Model 2 done, not stupid Cyberturds. Mainstream manufacturers need to get Golf sized cars out there that don’t weigh 2 tonnes. It’s a half-arsed approach currently and really needs to change. ~Ends~

@Dr_W_E_Bulmer I had exactly the same feelings following a trip to Copenhagen, utterly depressing, with the only small exception being that smoking was still allowed in the pubs.

Heading to Scotland from the Netherlands. It is always a depressing experience. Scotland is visibly poorer, dirtier, uglier (in its built environment), and less well run and organised, than the Netherlands. The whole place is pulled down by low standards and lack of ambition.

@SouthLanCouncil Is this a joke? Truly awful for biodiversity and filtering out air pollutants! Ridiculous waste of time and effort.

Our environmental hit squads are working across South Lanarkshire clearing footpaths, cutting back hedges, weeding, cleaning high-footfall pavements and street furniture, and undertaking other environmental improvement works thanks to the council’s 3-yr £3.5m Frontline First Fund

@sentientist Yup. That’s why, in my experience, the second bairn is easier than the first because you just don’t have the same time / energy to expend being hyper-attentive / worried as when there was just the one. All part of the learning curve.

My favorite posts on forums for new parents are from people who think sleep training by "crying it out" is bad but end up sleep training their babies accidentally one night when their baby monitor runs out of batteries and then they realize that sleep training is good, actually.

Day 2 of the keepy up challenge. For some reason I picked the windiest spot in the whole country so it took a few goes. Today’s attempt was brought to you by the titan crane, @judebellingham and the number 52.

Here's an interesting one Our home battery inverter has a trigger point to switch on and it's around 80W, which means we have to use more appliances just to utilise the battery, OR, take a small amount from the grid.
