@benconomics Maybe the rare civics schools (which seem to be unfortunately corrupt)
English

Are there any actual politically conservative intellectual disciplines in the academy?
Crémieux@cremieuxrecueil
Political diversity across academic disciplines seems to be pretty close to an index of how conservative the discipline is on average. More conservatives -> more political variance.

@wilhelmscreamin think it's like 6:
- dwarkesh pod
- statecraft by santi
- conversations with tyler
- cheeky pint with john collison
- interesting times with ross douthat
- 80k

@zagrebbi @lionel_trolling “Yes Professor Kotkin, I do find you funny”
English

@lionel_trolling Maybe this is why I can never take him seriously

@aniketapanjwani 5% is too low. People are incredibly stubborn. Obviously tenure weakens any incentives which run against this

@jack_ceroni (It goes without saying that ‘so bad at math’ for a current Chicago Math PhD is still well into the 99th percentile)
English

@NailYourShoes Lmao my bad. I’ll blame my poor reading comp on the fact that I’m sick
English

@quant_____ also re: call I meant more along the lines of could yap on the phone for half an hour in the manner and topics I’m accustomed to. But yeah sure pull up to dinner as well if you’d like lmao
English

@NailYourShoes Yea I’m lucky I don’t usually have to cancel plans for family stuff if I had those plans first.
That is a kind offer. Will do if I’m in the area lol
English

Look broadly it’s a great time tbh but tonight specifically I had other plans I was looking forward to, feel like it’s all a tad bit mean spirited, and anyway am in a kinda sullen mood
That said, if this is really your speed then call me any time and I can give you a taste of Jewish family dinner table talk
English

@quant_____ we usually hit interesting new topics every time. this time it was shit talking people who haven’t rsvp’d y/n for The Wedding™ yet, talking about various family friends having too high standards, and male/female relationship dynamics as it relates to career and income
English

@NailYourShoes Goodness I sound like a resentful teenager. But really, I just wish I felt more connected to all of my relatives.
English

Always a riveting discussion at family dinner. Topics are often:
1) people I’ve never met and my parents haven’t seen in 15 years.
2) some event/phenomena someone heard in passing on the radio (they know nothing about it)
3) small talk simulator (even though everyone knows eachother very very well)
