I am proud to be one of three Directors of the YEL and have been since 2017 on a pure voluntary basis. Very recently I reluctantly stepped in as Chair on a very short-term basis while the league implements many new FA initiatives (such as 3v3) and consults with member clubs on a refreshed direction of travel, including proposals to significantly reduce fines and tackle the massive shortage of referees. It’s important to remember that this is the clubs’ league – and the YEL simply provides the mechanism that enables 20,000 children to play football every weekend. The FA awarded the YEL the Best League in the Country in 2024, and as I have for the past eight years, I will continue to do my very best to ensure we maintain the highest standards for our clubs, volunteers, and young players.

200 people in one room isn’t productive for a think-tank type feedback session. Also, bigger clubs will have different challenges to smaller clubs. So there will be an opportunity for all over the coming weeks. We’ll then compile for a large AGM meeting where Clubs will vote on what they want. Hope that answers your question Robert.

@Bigalanh5 @relliman1983 So why not invite all clubs to the meeting rather than 46% only. So all clubs can decide? Apparently 56% are not invited. Why invite only bigger clubs? I will not comment further on the referees issue but will be writing to the head of refereeing for his opinion on it at the FA.

@Bigalanh5 Clubs appointing refs will be a bad idea. Different leagues, clubs/teams could work better together to get referees with games following on etc. Making sure fulltime right etc etc

@relliman1983 You’re absolutely right, but we get involved in lots of stuff which, strictly speaking, is outside of YEL’s responsibility.

As I am not involved in the YEL now, I am only hearing rumours from colleagues and could be wrong. Think they following the JPL model where clubs appoint

On the “Civil Wor” at Newcastle, maybe if Liverpool had acted earlier and offered a proper fee for Alexander Isak, a world-class centre-forward with three years left on his contract, Newcastle would have had time and funds to bring in a suitable replacement. £110m was disrespectful to Newcastle (and Isak). And who are Newcastle going to get at this late stage of the window with suitable targets moved elsewhere? Yoane Wissa is not like for like. Newcastle need two anyway with Callum Wilson gone. It’s very easy to see why Newcastle and their proud, tough owners who don't like losing - or losing face - are playing hard-ball and determined to keep Isak. The saga continues. #NUFC #LFC
