I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Congressman David Scott, who passionately served the people of Georgia's 13th district for more than 20 years. Congressman Scott was a fierce advocate and will be sincerely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Giant health insurance companies, like UnitedHealth, are under investigation for corporate fraud through their Medicare Advantage plans. We cannot give these companies one more taxpayer dollar, let alone the $13 billion HHS Secretary Kennedy just approved.

PabloReports: Can you share anything about the words you exchanged yesterday with RFK Jr. after the hearing? AOC: Oh, I mean, listen, we’re getting screwed. People are getting screwed. The DOJ has a criminal case open on United Healthcare for stealing money from Medicare. And we’re in a time where all of our healthcare is getting defunded. People are getting denied their health insurance. People are getting denied surgeries, medicines—prescriptions are super expensive. And this administration is responsible for it and rewarding them for it. And we have to bring it to a stop. These companies that are running Medicare Advantage are stealing from people, and we need to be honest about it. It’s got to come to an end.

There is no reason why the Bronx shouldn’t have the beautiful waterfront access and infrastructure that every other borough has. That is why I am proud to have secured $1 million in federal funding to help restore public access to the East 132nd Street pier in Port Morris.

Our current drug scheduling system in the U.S. does little to deter drug abuse or overdose rates, but instead hinders research and unfairly criminalizes communities. We need to invest in actual solutions like prevention, treatment, and recovery.

AOC: These companies are not paying for their own energy infrastructure. People energy bills around the country are skyrocketing in order to pay for these A.I. data centers  Working people are already living paycheck-to-paycheck in some states off of wages as low as $7.25 an hour. Another federal minimum wage that congress also refuses to raise. They simply cannot afford another increase to their bill. While the American people are suffering, big tech continues to demand more. More data centers, energy, more data collection, more American jobs replaced by A.I., all on the feet of the American people to pay.

AOC: And it is no surprise that in the four years since ChatGPT was released, we have seen AI deployed at a massive scale to create Big Brother–like surveillance. Every day, Americans are seeing videos of ICE agents waving phones into crowds, threatening U.S. citizens that if they exercise their First Amendment rights, they could be added to some vague database the American people have neither consented to nor been informed about.
