⚡️ New: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has introduced an amendment that could effectively halt all offensive and defensive U.S. military aid to Israel under current conditions, as part of a package of 11 amendments to the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act.
🔸The proposal would require all U.S. defense articles and services to be used in accordance with international law and, consistent with Section 620I of the Foreign Assistance Act, prohibit transfers to countries that restrict U.S.-supported humanitarian aid — unless the president certifies the recipient is complying with those requirements and Congress separately authorizes the transfer.
🔸Its practical force lies in stripping the president’s discretion to look past existing law. Section 620I already bars aid to governments that block U.S. humanitarian assistance, but administrations have repeatedly declined to determine that Israel is in violation despite restrictions on aid entering Gaza.
🔸 Under the amendment, the president would have to affirmatively make that determination, and Congress would have to specifically authorize the transfer through legislation before covered military aid could proceed.

Extreme heat arrives Wednesday. Today, while it is still mild, is the day to get ready.
Take a few minutes to safely clean and install your air conditioner. A working AC is the single most effective way to prevent heat illness and death, especially for older adults, people with health conditions, and anyone at higher risk.
At Emergency Management, we plan for heat as the deadliest weather we face, and we know the days before matter most. Set yourself up now to keep you and your family safe so you are cool and protected when the temperatures climb.

AOC: They come in the right way, they fill out their paperwork, they have gotten a job, they’re participating in our economy, they’re paying taxes, and now we’re going to endanger and possibly put people on a track to deportation who are gainfully participating in their communities and in our economy at a time when, frankly, even just economically and socially, we need these folks now more than ever.

AOC on Inflation: It’s not easy to just find a cheaper apartment when every apartment or every home in your area is the same unaffordable price.
And so what is so challenging about this is that this isn’t just like going to the grocery store and buying the generic cereal and switching over. How do you actually accommodate when you can’t afford medicine, when you can’t afford your housing? This is a crisis…
MacFarlane: Do you think the administration is taking it seriously?
AOC: No, they’re making it worse because what the Trump administration is doing is entering sweetheart deal after sweetheart deal, whether it’s with Monsanto and our food supply with glyphosate, whether it’s housing, whether it’s, you know, these crypto agents that are engaged in money laundering—I think at least.
I think they are not only ignoring it, they see it and they are actively making it worse. And what they think is that people are too dumb to understand what it is that they’re doing.
They’re banking on the fact that people will support them no matter what and that nothing will change that support. And I think that what is really important is for every voter, regardless of your background or your party or whatever it is, to understand what’s your line and what is acceptable to you.

Thunderstorms and the chance of flash flooding move into NYC today. Heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and lightning are all possible. High winds can knock down trees and power lines and send debris flying. Heavy rain can flood streets and basement apartments fast, often with very little warning.
NYCEM activated the city's Flash Flood Emergency Plan on Thursday. We have been preparing since then and through the day, coordinating with agency partners and tracking conditions around the clock so the city is ready and New Yorkers get the word in time to act. Now we need you to do your part.
Know your risk. If you live in a basement or ground-floor apartment, a low-lying neighborhood, or an area that has flooded before, you are at higher risk. Take a few minutes now to get ready.
Before the storm:
Sign up for alerts at nyc.gov/notifynyc or text NYC to 692-692. If you live in a basement apartment, select the basement apartment alert option so you get warnings that apply to where you live. Bring in or tie down anything that can blow away, like trash cans, lawn furniture, plant pots, and umbrellas. Clear debris from basement windows, stairwell drains, and gutters so water can flow. Make sure your basement exits are clear and easy to open. Keep a Go Bag near your door with medications, a flashlight, a phone charger, and important documents in waterproof bags.
When it hits:
If you hear thunder, head inside and move away from windows to an interior room on a lower floor. Do not touch electrical equipment or plumbing during a thunderstorm. If a Flash Flood Warning or Emergency is issued, act immediately and move to higher ground. Do not wait to see the water. Never walk or drive through floodwater. Just 6 inches can knock you off your feet, and 1 foot can sweep away a car. Once you leave a flooded area, do not go back until officials confirm it is clear. Flooding can develop overnight, so keep your phone nearby with alerts on and the volume up.

Corruption has poisoned our politics for too long.
@RepAOC, @RepMikeLevin, and I are taking it head on.
Working class Americans deserve a political system that answers to them, not the elite.
