I will say this - LLMs are not replacing humans any time soon. I have experience in my domaim and know what to elicit from an LLM. I'm saving myself the hassle of typing 100K LoC every year. But if companies stop hiring young people, there will be a void in the pipeline and it will create havoc. "AI will replace SDEs" is a marketing gimmick. AI will make people more productive and result in more people writing more software. This non-hiring of juniors will be fixed soon enough.

I wonder how long Europe, China, India and others are just going to sit around and watch him burn the world. I think the red line for most will be the unavailability of fertiliser. If we get there, we would be staring down the barrel of a food crisis. Nobody is immune to that.

India has created an incredibly effective AD for the challenges it feels will originate from Pakistan. Whether this AD works against the type of threat a country like Iran poses is unknown. Right now India hasn't deployed this to cover all major cities. Don't see how India can export anything.

Yeah. But nothing except Chinese destined shipping is transiting. That's via a dark fleet and doesn't need insurance. But for all other destinations you need insurance. And nobody is going to underwrite that. The only solution is for the Govts themselves to do it.
Will Slaughter@BamaBonds

If Iran is willing to let Japanese, Chinese, Indian, and possibly Korean vessels transit the SoH, the “closure” quickly becomes a non-issue with Saudi & Iraq able to divert 7-10 mmb/d via pipelines to the benefit of non-favored nations.

This has been a huge issue. Second best at 50-50s, second balls, aerial duels, and on and on. The press has totally died. I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes but it feels like the players aren't fit enough and don't have legs beyond 60 mins. Add in slow starts and the team is left playing catch up. Injuries haven't helped. Liverpool would ideally play with Ekitike, Isak and Salah and all three were unavailable today. Curtis jones seems totally lost. MacAllister just can't seem to get around at all.

Condemning Iran for attacks on Civilian energy facilities without condemning Israel for doing the same is not going to get these countries anywhere. There needs to be pressure on both sides to de-escalate. Just hassling Iran is rather dumb.
Aditya Raj Kaul@AdityaRajKaul

Joint Statement on the Strait of Hormuz Joint statement from the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Denmark, Latvia, Slovenia, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Czechia, Romania, Bahrain, Lithuania, and Australia on the Strait of Hormuz We condemn in the strongest terms recent attacks by Iran on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, attacks on civilian infrastructure including oil and gas installations, and the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces. We express our deep concern about the escalating conflict. We call on Iran to cease immediately its threats, laying of mines, drone and missile attacks and other attempts to block the Strait to commercial shipping, and to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817. Freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law, including under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The effects of Iran’s actions will be felt by people in all parts of the world, especially the most vulnerable. Consistent with UNSC Resolution 2817, we emphasise that such interference with international shipping and the disruption of global energy supply chains constitute a threat to international peace and security. In this regard, we call for an immediate comprehensive moratorium on attacks on civilian infrastructure, including oil and gas installations. We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait. We welcome the commitment of nations who are engaging in preparatory planning. We welcome the International Energy Agency decision to authorise a coordinated release of strategic petroleum reserves. We will take other steps to stabilise energy markets, including working with certain producing nations to increase output. We will also work to provide support for the most affected nations, including through the United Nations and the IFIs. Maritime security and freedom of navigation benefit all countries. We call on all states to respect international law and uphold the fundamental principles of international prosperity and security.

Yes, I agree. But thank God that they can eat three meals a day. Growing up in the 90s, reading about frequent starvation deaths was a mind numbing experience. That had a profound impact on the psyche of the nation and these policies are driven by those scars. Today, India and Indians have enough that nobody should go to bed hungry. But a lot of work still needs to be done to ensure that every eligible beneficiary takes advantage of such schemes.

It's not a cashback scheme, sir. Taxes are to help the govt help society. We have many people who cannot afford food, education, health care, housing and even sanitation. Governments, no matter which party is in power, have to balance those needs with other developmental needs and other national priorities like defence. As we get richer, many problems will be alleviated. Comparing public infrastructure with countries with 30x our PCI is way off the mark.
Venkatesh Alla@venkat_fin9

Dear @nsitharaman @FinMinIndia , We're not asking for tax-free income. We're asking for VALUE. 32 to 36% tax for Singapore-level infrastructure? Done. 36% for Nordic healthcare? Fine. 36% for Swiss public transport? Sure. But 36% for potholed roads, collapsing bridges, and 6-hour power cuts? That's not tax. That's theft.

.@SecScottBessent: In the coming days, we may unsanction the Iranian oil that's on the water. It's about 140 million barrels, so depending how you count it, that's 10 days to 2 weeks of supply, that the Iranians had been pushing out, that would have all gone to China. In essence, we'd be using the Iranian barrels against the Iranians to keep the price down for the next 10 or 14 days, as we continue this campaign. So, we have lots of levers.

Prakhar is not wrong. When a country doesn't have the resources it needs a s starts descending into chaos, military action is the last respite. Have enough countries feeling that way and that's how you get a world war.
Prakhar Gupta@prvkhvr

This is the war dragging the world into it. Unacceptable. World leaders must stand up and denounce the war. This is how a world war can begin. Ive evaluated possibility of WW to be <5% until now. Now i think its 2xd. If not pure weapon war, economic collapse, price hikes, small wars for resources.

What makes this crisis unique and terrifying is that the US doesn't have any policy options to lower oil prices. Even if they declared a ceasefire and walked away, Iran could keep the strait blocked indefinitely and cause the world considerable pain.
