Here are the FACTS. On February 19, 2026, Buffalo Police Department alerted Border Patrol about a non-citizen in their custody. Our agents confirmed that Mr. Shah Alam entered the United States as a refugee on December 24, 2024, and was not amenable to removal. Border Patrol agents offered him a courtesy ride, which he chose to accept to a coffee shop, determined to be a warm, safe location near his last known address, rather than be released directly from the Border Patrol station. He showed no signs of distress, mobility issues, or disabilities requiring special assistance.

It was an absolute honour to bring the Burmese and Rohingya communities together in one room. One of the most beautiful things about Canada, even when there is conflict in other parts of the world, we can come together here, united on common ground, committed to a shared hope for a free and democratic Myanmar. We reject the junta’s sham election and look forward to the day when Myanmar is governed by democracy, not dictatorship. The evening was a powerful opportunity to learn from one another and to hear directly about the realities people are facing under junta rule. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to listen, learn, and share.

🇧🇩 A new @FortifyRights report documents the mass arbitrary detention and “warehousing” of Rohingya refugees, genocide survivors from Myanmar, on Bhasan Char in Bangladesh. Based on more than 100 interviews over five years, the report finds that Rohingya refugees are denied freedom of movement and access to livelihoods, amounting to de facto detention in violation of domestic and international law. The report calls on Bangladesh to close Bhasan Char, end refugee “warehousing,” and protect the rights and dignity of Rohingya refugees. Read the report: bit.ly/BhasanCharRepo…

A large fire🔥broke out overnight in one of the Rohingya refugee camps, destroying/damaging 500+ shelters & camp infrastructure. Heroic efforts of #refugee volunteers & 🇧🇩 fire service contained the flames and prevented injuries, but the damage is extensive👇 📸:@IOMBangladesh
