Fortify Rights’s Leadership Council members and Rohingya-led groups call on the International Criminal Court to seek an arrest warrant for Ata Ullah, leader of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, for international crimes committed in #Myanmar and #Bangladesh. While Ata Ullah has been detained in Bangladesh on national charges since March 2025, there has been no progress toward accountability for the full scope of his crimes. “Failure to act risks emboldening perpetrators, deepening cycles of violence, and denying victims their fundamental right to justice,” said members of the Fortify Rights Leadership Council in the statement. Fortify Rights’s Leadership Council members call on the International Criminal Court to seek an arrest warrant for ARSA leader Ata Ullah for international crimes committed in Myanmar and Bangladesh, including ordering the killings of Rohingya civilians and human rights defenders. Among the signatories are Sir Geoffrey Nice KC, who prosecuted Slobodan Milošević at the ICTY, Kerry Kennedy, Beth Van Schaack, Lord Alton, Yale Law Professor Jim Silk, and more. “By seeking an arrest warrant for Ata Ullah, the Office of the Prosecutor would signal that accountability for atrocity crimes applies to all perpetrators,” the statement said.

Crimes against the Rohingya: Today, the Leadership Council at @FortifyRights and together with Rohingya-led groups, has called on the ICC to seek an arrest warrant for Ata Ullah, leader of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, for alleged war crimes and abuses against Rohingya civilians in Myanmar and Bangladesh. Rohingya communities have suffered abuses by both state and non-state actors for far too long. They deserve justice and accountability. @FCDOGovUK @BrendanOHaraMP @EwelinaUO @HelenaKennedyKC Read our statement: fortifyrights.org/downloads/Stat…

The statement is also endorsed by actor and activist Thomas Sadoski, contemporary artist Linda Karshan, award-winning Bangladeshi photographer Saiful Huq Omi, and business leaders including Leela Cosgrove and Stephen Smyk. Their support reflects a broader recognition that accountability for atrocity crimes is not only a legal imperative, but a global moral concern demanding attention across sectors and societies. 🚨 #Thailand should immediately release and ensure the safety of Hong Kong pro-democracy journalist Zhang Xinyan and refrain from returning her to #China, where she risks persecution, unfair trial, and detention, said @FortifyRights today. On May 7, 2026, Thai immigration authorities arrested Zhang based on an arrest warrant issued by #HongKong and continued to detain her despite her recognized refugee status with UNHCR. “The arrest of Zhang Xinyan shows clearly that Thailand’s failure to recognize refugee status remains a major problem,” said Thanida Piyachot, Human Rights Specialist at Fortify Rights. “Thailand should immediately review the effectiveness of its existing refugee protection mechanisms.” fortifyrights.org/tha-inv-2026-0…

"I have known for almost a decade that I am in Beijing’s sights. But it is one thing to receive letters sent from Hong Kong through the letterbox. It is quite another to open the front door and find a potential Chinese agent or collaborator on the pavement outside." In The Telegraph, @BenedictRogers from @FortifyRights recounts a personal encounter with a suspected Chinese spy and warns of the growing threats posed by Beijing’s transnational repression and surveillance. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/0…
