Summer is here and it’s really hot in Gaza reaching 30 degrees Celsius / 86 Fahrenheit. Now imagine that being a sick patient in a tent. We have multiple solar panels in our camps but they can’t provide fans for everyone, so our medical team assessed those most in need. Crowdfunding has become harder as less images of Gaza are shown and the genocide is barely reported in international media. The Sameer Project provides a dozen videos per day filming the realities on the ground and consent is given for each video we take. The beach is an outlet for children in Gaza and in this video we see the joy of playing together near the beach. Moments of joy like these are so precious! This summer we are looking to do those activities weekly with kids from different camps. Joy is a tool for survival. Multiple incidents of teenagers killing themselves have been reported. Most amputees in Gaza don’t have access to prosthetics. This leaves them struggling with limited mobility and in need of support from others all the time. Recently we stopped taking these cases due to the lack of funds, even though the need remains super high. The medical system in Gaza collapsed and there are only a few hospitals operating. It’s also the small struggles in Gaza that accumulate and deplete the bodies. Carrying jerrycans of water, queuing for food, starting a fire, manually washing clothes and more. Women spend their day just trying to keep their tents clean and taking care of their children despite the obstacles. Three years in tents. Nostalgia is something that Palestinians in Gaza hold on to. Simple things like a bed and a tap are things that people reminisce about while living in tents for over two years. Today during their distributions in Jabalia, The Sameer Project filmed the transfer of a woman who got injured after a wall fell on her. Half-demolished homes in Gaza are unsafe but unfortunately people don’t have a choice and live in them despite the dangers. The woman was transferred to Al Shifa Hospital in critical condition, we pray for her recovery. This is one of dozens of cases where people were killed or severely injured from homes collapsing on them. No caravans or rebuilding material is allowed in. The military occupation is slowly killing Palestinians in Gaza, and the world has turned a blind eye. Cases like this woman are not mentioned anywhere, Palestinian lives are cheap and irrelevant. No amount of aid or mental health support will fix the fact that people having been living in a genocide for almost 3 years. Storytelling is what we use to raise awareness and funds for Palestinians in Gaza but now people are exhausted from repeating themselves with no result. It really feels now like the world gave up on ending the genocide 💔 The Sameer Project team is reporting that people don’t even want aid anymore. They just want a dignified life. One paper lists what is needed between life and death. The Sameer Project team gets hundreds of prescriptions per week and people pleading for support with medication. So medication is in fact getting in but at high prices that most people can’t afford. The Sameer Project medical teams consists of doctors, nurses and pharmacists who do their best to serve our community in Gaza. Mueen is only 6 years old but 80% of his body is covered in burns. The high temperatures in Gaza are agitating him and causing him to constantly scratch. Most Palestinians in Gaza rely on community kitchens for survival, and when international organizations cut down the amounts of food, hundreds of thousands were severely impacted. The Sameer Project kitchen can make 3,000 meals a day but we cut that down to 1,500 meals. We also switched from meat meals to meatless meals last week due to lack of funds. A little test with some residents in Jabalia Camp shows the difference between fresh water and contaminated water. Sadly so many Palestinians in Gaza drink contaminated water due to the lack of consistent access to clean water. Our team checks the salinity of each truck before distribution and we also have surprise checks by other team members to make sure that we always serve high-quality water. Access to medication for patients with chronic illnesses is a HUGE issue in Gaza. So many camps suffer with access to medication because the military occupation barely allows any medication in and most of it is for commercial use so is sold for high prices. Our average expenditure on medications for a chronic illness day is $1,200 - $1,500. On June 2nd, The Sameer Project medical team did a chronic illness day in Amana Camp in Khan Younis. These medical days are a huge relief for patients and we hope that we can continue them with your support. Algae filled and punctured jerrycans are a huge challenge for families in Gaza. One jerrycan costs $8.50 to $14, depending on the size - a price that most people wouldn’t be able to afford. Asal means honey and our gorgeous Asal felt the absence of her mother in Eid. Here she talks about the void her mom left after she was martyred last summer. Kids like Asal have experienced immense loss and grief at such a young age.
